Description
The Radiation Safety Representative plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of radiation practices within the Medical Center. This individual is appointed to maintain the Radiation Safety Program and serves as the Medical Center’s liaison between the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and the various Radiation departments. Under general direction, the Radiation Safety Representative oversees the Radiation Safety Committee programs and meetings, ensuring effective communication and adherence to safety protocols. |
Core Competencies |
- Completes agendas containing risk reports provided by the RSO to the Radiation Safety Committee on a quarterly and annual basis and reviews the Radiation Safety Program with senior management. Ensures all radiation safety measures are implemented across all radiation departments.
- Acts as staff liaison to the Medical Chairperson of the Radiation Safety Committee, oversees radiation safety training for staff, and serves on the Medical Center’s Radiation Safety Committee and Emergency Management Committee. Coordinates radiation safety-related questions from staff.
- Assume responsibility for the radiation safety emergency response plan, assist in Title 17, Section 30255 compliance, and work with the RSO to monitor and sign dosimetry reports at least quarterly for ALARA limits. Maintains occupational radiation exposure records for all appropriate personnel, ensuring documentation of individual exposure does not exceed the annual limit.
- Complies with organization-wide and department-specific policies and procedures, including maintaining a working knowledge of these policies. Maintains all regulatory licensure for radiation-producing hospital equipment.
- Collects new equipment installation paperwork and maintains files of individuals installing, relocating, maintaining, repairing, or operating devices containing sealed sources. Review incident reports with the RSO and reports to departments.

- Serve as the primary administrative person for radiation safety-related tasks.
- Manage dose reports and distribute radiation badges to personnel.
- Utilize the Landauer application for radiation monitoring and reporting.
- Act as the super user for the Radimetrics system, ensuring effective utilization and troubleshooting.
- Create agendas for Radiation Safety Committee meetings and facilitate these meetings.
- Maintain responsibility for the Radiation-Authorized Materials (RAM) license renewals and edits with the support of RSO.
