Job Title: Innovation Data Lead

Reporting to: Head of Innovation

Location: City of London

Position Type: Permanent, 35 hours per week

The UWP Innovation Team has been established to empower underwriters and management by providing richer information at the point of decision making. We are working towards this by:

 

  • Building out a cross-functional team sitting on the underwriting floor
  • Developing the team’s understanding of insurance
  • Creating tools to support TMHCC’s market-leading underwriting results

About the Opportunity

The London Market Underwriting & Reinsurance Performance Innovation team consists of Software Engineers and Data Scientists sitting alongside Actuaries and Underwriters to define and deliver the future of Property & Casualty underwriting at TMHCC International.

As a Data Specialist with broad Data experience and a value-focused approach to innovation you will research, design, test, develop and support solutions to transform our market-leading Property & Casualty underwriting business.

Core Responsibilities

  • Work with end-user groups to develop ideas into solutions
  • Support head of department while playing a core role in design and implementation of new solutions
  • Design & coordinate development of Data Models & Pipelines
  • Coach & identify development opportunities within the team
  • Drive technical excellence to preserve and enhance agility
  • Collaborate with software engineers, underwriters and actuaries to define and deliver the future of Property & Casualty underwriting at TMHCC International
  • Continually improve ways of working, responding to change and maintaining focus on the underwriting experience
  • Optimise the flow of value to the business
  • Establish relationships with peers around the company

Skills and Experience Specification

Essential:

  • Relevant qualifications and experience i.e. BSc or higher in a quantitative field eg STEM, Computer Science or similar certifications
  • Demonstrable experience across multiple facets of the data landscape such as Data Modelling, Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, Analytical Applications, Data Science
  • Experience with Python and ELT frameworks such as AWS Glue, DBT etc.
  • Strong understanding of agile practices in both discovery and delivery
  • Strong understanding of TDD and its benefits
  • Awareness of modern technology techniques and the similarities between patterns such as Domain Driven Design (DDD), Data Vault 2.0 and Data Mesh
  • Appetite for continual experimentation & learning
  • Previous experience in London Market pricing, Enterprise Risk Modelling or actuarial concepts
  • Understanding of Geospatial analysis and RMS data structures

 

Desirable:

  • Ability to develop analytical dashboards in an appropriate tool (Dash / Shiny / Streamlit)
  • Experience of AWS and Terraform
  • Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps practices
  • Experience of Python API frameworks - Flask and/or FastAPI
