Job Title: Data Scientist

Location: City of London

Position Type: Permanent, 35 hours per week

Hybrid: 3 days in the office, 2 days working from home

About the Opportunity

The London Market Underwriting & Reinsurance Performance Innovation team consists of Software Engineers and Data Scientists sitting alongside Actuaries and Underwriters to define and deliver the future of Property & Casualty underwriting at TMHCC International.

As a Data Scientist with a particular interest in Geospatial datasets, you will research and build models to transform our market-leading Property & Casualty underwriting business, working in an Agile team with Software Engineers to deliver these models into the hands of our underwriters.

Core Responsibilities

-          Develop interactive risk models combining underwriting judgment with quantitative parameterisation

-          Perform exploratory analysis, build models & develop interactive dashboards to give insight into data & models

-          Work with software engineering colleagues to embed models & tools into production-grade systems, including appropriate regulatory documentation

-          Develop portfolio-level risk metrics aggregated from individual risk models

-          Continually improve ways of working, responding to change and maintaining focus on the underwriting experience

-          Optimise the flow of value to the business

Skills and Experience Specification

Essential:

-          Relevant qualifications and experience i.e. Degree in a quantitative or mathematical field or 3+ years demonstrable experience building insurance risk models

-          Proficiency with the Python data science stack (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, Jupyter etc.)

-          Highly numerate with the ability to manipulate large datasets

-          Strong understanding of data pipeline tooling eg SQL, dbt, Snowflake, AWS Glue, Airflow, AWS Step Functions, AWS Lambda

 

Desirable:

-          Ability to develop analytical dashboards in an appropriate tool (Dash / Shiny / Streamlit)

-          Experience with the R data science ecosystem (RStudio, tidyverse, ggplot)

-          Understanding of Geospatial analysis and RMS data structures

-          Experience with visualisation and statistical libraries such as Plotly, D3, Datashader

-          Knowledge of reproducible research methods & automated report generation tools such as Quarto, R Markdown, Pandoc

-          An appreciation of the core philosophy behind agile methodologies

-          Previous experience in London Market pricing or enterprise risk modelling, actuarial concepts
