About The Role:
We are looking for a Sr. Casualty Claims Manager who is responsible for managing claim staff that is involved in the investigation of coverage, liability, damages, and resolution of both non-litigated and litigated claim files for casualty claim lines. This role will have an emphasis on construction defect, construction injury, artisan contractor and OL&T claims nationwide, with a heavy emphasis on wrap construction defect coverage and defense, leadership, and direct interaction with the claims staff.
  
Key Responsibilities:   
  • Claims Handling: Oversee the processing of claims including coverage, documentation, investigation, evaluation, negotiation, reserving, handling of funds, and equitable settlement. Must possess, excellent technical skills in some or all areas of construction defect, product liability, artisan contractors, and OL&T claims/litigation. Oversee all aspects of the litigation management process for high-exposure liability claims to minimize company risk of loss. Analyze coverage issues, handle or oversee the conducting of investigations, evaluate liability and damages and determine validity of complex liability claims. Maintain claim files, both physical and electronic. Update files as needed.
  • Leadership: Provide leadership, supervision, guidance and training to Claims personnel with varying levels of experience including the review of settlement payments and coverage disclaimers. Assign designated claims to outside counsel including management of the process and approval of company charges/billing. Oversight of the budgeting process with an emphasis on resolution of claims to lower overall ALE. Assign claims to appropriate adjuster based on type of claim and experience of the adjuster. Provide thoughtful up-front direction in a file as well as timely ongoing direction to the adjusters assigned to his/her unit. Strong emphasis on teaching claim organization and coverage. Conduct annual performance appraisals and timely performance management, if needed.
  • Reporting: Provide timely and accurate reporting to management and other internal clients, including summaries of open/closed claims or other related bordereaux. Provide accurate and comprehensive large loss notices to claims leadership. Responsibility for executing and achieving yearly metrics.
  • Other Duties: May attend settlement conferences and facilitation hearings when legal staff cannot be present. Must hold a license in states where TMHCC does business.
 Minimum Knowledge, Qualifications and Education Requirements:    
  • Bachelor’s degree is required. JD is preferred.
  • Must possess or attain State Adjusting Licenses, as required.
  • 15+ years of experience handling Wrap Policy Construction Defect cases.
  • 10+ years of experience in a Leadership capacity is preferred.
  • Must be highly proficient in coverage and experienced handling coverage litigation on behalf of a carrier.
  • Needs to possess a high understanding of risk transfer and recovery.
  • Should be proficient in litigation management, with an emphasis on legal budget creation and review.
  • Possess and have the ability to apply advanced knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Must be an exceptional communicator and able to make connections externally and internally.
  • Displays a flexible mindset and a willingness to learn.
  • Holds superior organizational and analysis skills; with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Displays sound analytical skills, as well as strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
