Contract Bond Underwriter   

    

Tokio Marine HCC – Surety Group, a member of the Tokio Marine Group of Companies, has an exciting opportunity for a Contract Bond Underwriter at our Cincinnati, OH branch office.       

    

We are looking for a motivated individual to join our highly skilled underwriting team which specializes in contract and commercial surety bonds. 

     

Key Responsibilities   

The Contract Bond Underwriter reviews contract bond applications to evaluate, classify, and rate risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing. The underwriter establishes, maintains, and develops agency and/or broker relationships, and has defined underwriting authority as well as responsibility for business development.   

    

Performance Objectives    

  • During the first 30 days: Learn about our company – our systems and processes, and the members of our team.  Review contract bond applications to evaluate, classify, and rate risk to determine acceptability and rating.  Analyze financial statements, collateral, and related due diligence.  Prepare bond execution and financial analysis reports.
  • During the first 3 months: Approve within given authority or recommend approval or denial of bonds to higher authority within field or home office. Draft and issue surety bonds according to established guidelines.
  • During the first 6 months: Resolve legal, accounting, and collateral issues related to bond submissions with internal clients.
  • During the first year and beyond: Cultivate relationships with internal and external contacts to facilitate the underwriting process, promote business development, and to remain abreast of industry trends.

    

Experience & Education Qualifications   

  • Two or more years of surety bond underwriting experience that includes a strong working knowledge of state laws
  • Success characteristics:
    • Advanced organizational skills
    • Excellent time management skills
    • Customer service mindset – highly responsive to external and internal parties
    • Business development initiative
  • Adept at using multiple systems, programs, and tracking information
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, a related field, or the equivalent education and/or experience
