About the Opportunity


TMHCC is amid an IT transformation and is shifting towards a Product-centric operating model, whilst increasing the maturity of the IT Service Management capabilities. This new role will be a crucial part of the team facilitating positive change to the TMHCC organisation manging our datacentre and developing our cloud capabilities based on industry best practices.

Job Purpose:


The purpose of this role:

The Automation Lead is responsible for the design, day-to-day management and operation of all areas of technology automation withing the TMHCCI hosting and cloud environment. Reporting to the Head of Hosting and Cloud and responsible for one engineer initially, this role and their team need to work alongside the Hosting and Cloud team of 6 members, supporting a TMHCCI user base of circa 1500 in a company supporting over 3500 total end users. This role will interact with various IT teams across TMHCC with a focus on supporting and developing the use of Automation workflows as we drive to automate aspects of the environment. The Automation Lead role requires strong technical skills with a passion for developing solutions, writing code and driving adoption of automation within a cloud and virtualization environment. The individual must have experience of working with global infrastructure and possess a team-first mentality whilst adhering to internal process with the ability to manage business critical issues.



Responsibilities & Key Tasks:






  • Working with Head of Hosting & Cloud and technical lead to implement and automate internal processes.
  • Working as a team to improve availability, performance and capacity of servers, storage and backup solutions within the Data Centres or Cloud solutions through the use of automation.
  • Champion automation and process re-engineering to continuously improve existing processes and move towards an Infrastructure as code-based environment.
  • Proficient at automation using more than one common scripting language – PowerShell, Python, bash, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform or similar.
  • Familiar with VMware and virtualisation, ideally having used the vRealize Automation product suite and Orchestrator to create blueprints and workflows.
  • Experienced in working in an Agile / DevOps environment.
  • Ownership of Infrastructure automation toolset, with the ability to develop automation tools and programs from scratch.
  • Work within a team to create and support IAAS services in AWS and Azure Cloud as needed.
  • Work closely with other teams across the wider IT department to automate manual processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience in a professional service environment.
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards.
  • Provide Tier III/other support as requested to investigate and troubleshoot issues.
  • Collaborate to build, manage and automate a disaster recovery plan in support of an overall business continuity program.
  • Work beyond scheduled hours as required providing out of hours support in incident situations.
  • Handle additional related projects as necessary.
  • Willing to work shifts between 07:00 – 18:00 as necessary on a rota basis
  • Willing to work late and weekends on an as needed basis.
  • Managing and maintaining knowledgebase and system documentation.
  • Taking ownership and management of escalated calls from the Service Desk.




Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • At least 5+ years working in an Infrastructure Operations Team supporting AWS, Azure and on-premises Infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of Ansible for automation and configuration management.
  • Strong PowerShell skills, ability to understand existing scripted solutions, write re-usable and well-written efficient code utilizing functions and parameters.
  • Azure Site Recovery and Cloud Endure, or other DR solutions
  • Ability to create reports using PowerShell that query disparate systems and turn data into usable information.
  • Use REST and third-party APIs to configure and query systems
  • Experience working in companies going through significant change.
  • Practical knowledge of ITIL application processes and implementation, preferably knowledge with Service Now.
  • Knowledge of server operating systems, with emphasis on Microsoft Windows, including domain structures, Active Directory, system administration, and Windows Terminal Server.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Experience with source and version control and an understanding of git workflows



  • Experience with CI/CD systems.
  • Azure or AWS qualifications
  • Experience with industry leading Monitoring tools such as SCOM, VRops and VRA
  • Knowledge of Azure Automation and Azure Dev Ops a bonus but not essential.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure hardware including hyperconverged technologies and traditional 3 tier.
  • Experience with vRealize Automation and Orchestrator and ability to create blueprints and cloud templates is an advantage.
