We provide insurance for our clients but who insures the insurer? That’s where the reinsurance group comes in and for this group we are looking for an inquisitive Senior Reinsurance Analyst.

In this role you, under supervision of a SME, perform progressively complex reinsurance and accounting activities relating to the maintenance of ledger accounts, financial statements, and the development of associated managerial reports for reinsurance applications.

This is an individual contributor role, based in our Houston office. 

What you work on (amongst others)

  • Heavy Excel usage (up to 85%) to prepare various reports using intermediate Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP & macros).
  • Be part of the team that closes lines of business monthly through our Reinsurance System. Review results for reasonableness, and then post to PeopleSoft Ledger.
  • Prepare and send externally manual billing for lines of business that do not flow through the Reinsurance System. Post cash in the Reinsurance System.
  • Book manual journal entries in PeopleSoft as required and perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Be part of the team that automates lines of business in the Reinsurance System by setting up Reinsurance contracts, uploading accounting transactions, and testing for desired results.
  • Set up new reinsurance contracts, including quota share, facultative and excess of loss, in the Reinsurance System using specific criteria.
  • Assist in gathering documentation for internal and external auditors for reinsurance matters.
  • Prepare annual report to parent company of all reinsurance contracts.
  • Update profit commission and sliding scale calculations on treaties as needed for accrual and collection purposes.
  • Take an active role in assisting with new projects that help the Reinsurance team to gain efficiencies and work smarter.
  • Prepare and analyze loss triangles for applicable lines of business using a semi-automated process.
  • Assist in funding requirements for letters of credit and funds held from our reinsurers.
  • Prepare various “Schedule F” and BE-45 statutory quarterly and annual files related to reinsurance.

 What we look for

You should have a 4 year Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, a related field, or the equivalent education and/or experience and 5 years of relevant and progressive professional experience.

 And ideally you have an Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) designation or progress towards an ARe designation and/or PeopleSoft exposure.

 And …

  •  Solid understanding of reinsurance principles and the accounting relationship.
  • Understanding of the general applications of a reinsurance system.
  • Possess and have ability to apply broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, act, and diplomacy.
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to applicable area of the Company's business to proactively respond to changing business environment.
  • Intermediate proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word).
