Investment Accountant
Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated accountant to join the growing investment accounting team of Starwood Capital Group, a leading real estate private equity company. The investment accounting team provides investment level financial and management accounting support for a portfolio 90 real estate investments totaling 753 assets. Property accounting is performed by a variety of external managers and / or partners.
Responsibilities:
- Recording the following types of transactions for entities in the investment structure in the system of record:
- Cash payments and receipts
- Interest accruals
- Debt amortization
- Real Estate development transactions (not project accounting)
- Fair value changes in derivative balances
- Fair value changes in real estate
- Acquisition of real estate
- Disposal of real estate
- Review of monthly reporting packages provided by third party managers / partners including:
- Accounting data uploaded by third party in system of record.
- Balance sheet
- Income statement
- Bank reconciliation(s)
- Fixed asset additions
- Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual investment Balance Sheet and Income Statement
- Additional supporting activities:
- Coding of invoices for Accounts Payable team
- Submission of capital draws for approval
- Interaction with external auditors and tax providers
- Ad-hoc support of asset management, investment accounting and fund accounting teams as required
Requirements:
- Inquisitive mindset and a willingness to learn.
- Handle change well.
- Demonstrable Excel skills
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
- Real estate investment accounting experience a plus
- Yardi experience a plus
- Project management experience a plus
- Process improvement experience a plus (both manual and through use of technology)
- Experience with other technology and software not specifically mentioned here could be of interest.
