Responsibilities
Shamrock is looking for a Senior Database Administrator with the ability to maintain, secure, and improve upon database infrastructure deployed in a combination of on-premise & public cloud servers, and on Platform-as-a-Service environments. The ideal candidate will have experience in monitoring, tuning, and securing relational database systems; have a mindset that emphasizes continuous improvement, security, and automation; and be willing to work across other areas of system administration as needed.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on database platform operations
- Design, deploy, and maintain database infrastructure & related technologies (operating systems, third-party software) following Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) principles
- Performance tuning of both 3rd-party application datasets as well as custom developed SQL
- Take ownership of technical issues to see them through to resolution, performing complex troubleshooting and root cause analysis to prevent issue recurrence
- Continuously seek to expand and apply your knowledge of database technologies in use at Shamrock
- Participate in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation to support our cloud and data center infrastructure
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree in a technical field or evidence of exceptional ability
- Must possess a passion for technology and take initiative to stay educated on the latest and most relevant technologies and methodologies
- 5+ years of experience administering, monitoring, and tuning database workloads on PostgreSQL.
- Strong SQL performance tuning and data modeling skills
- Production experience administering change data capture and change tracking.
- Expertise with database monitoring platforms
- Service-focused attitude with the initiative to identify & resolve issues before they become critical
- Strong people skills and the ability to collaborate and partner with others across teams to address issues
- Ability to adapt gracefully to changes in a dynamic work environment
- Possess a propensity for knowledge gathering and sharing
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in English
- Self-motivated, able to respond quickly when on-call, and willing to work outside of primary focus area as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience administering, monitoring, and tuning database workloads on SQL Server and MongoDB
- Experience using Rubrik to manage database backups
- Experience deploying & managing public cloud resources in AWS and/or Azure
- Demonstrated ability to script & automate processes
- Familiarity with Terraform
