Life Enrichment Supervisor
Description
We are hiring a Life Enrichment Supervisor who plans, organizes, directs and implements programs and activities, which encourage the social, emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual development of residents as an integral part of their total care in accordance with the community’s policies, procedures, Federal and State laws and regulations. Oversees the daily supervision of Life Enrichment Assistants.
What You Will Do:
- Plans, organizes, directs, and carries out programs that encourage the social, emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual development of residents. This includes, but is not limited to educational, intellectual, cognitive, life long learning, cultural, fitness and health/wellness development programs and volunteer opportunities.
- Interviews residents to determine the resident’s needs, interests and abilities to participate in activities. Gathers information from the resident on the talents that they may have to contribute to the community. Works with the Director of Life Enrichment to ensure that individual and group programs are meaningful, have variety, and are utilized by the residents.
- Performs assessments and completes documentation in medical records. Maintains comprehensive resident activity assessments, quarterly progress notes to ensure full compliance with all Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to activities.
- Creates weekly and/or monthly calendars and maintains Touchdown system. Decorates assigned areas to recognize a full spectrum of holidays and diverse groups. Organizes and promotes (invitations, flyers, follow up/reminder calls) activities to residents. Provides updates about resources and information to residents and their family members.
- Coordinates the set up and break down of all programs and is physically present and engaged during the programs. Maintains inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Utilizes community resources to assist in conducting activities. Plans activities with other staff members and residents as requested. Presents in-service training to staff regarding activity programs.
- Handles and resolves complaints according to established guidelines; reports issues to Director of Life Enrichment and/or community’s management.
- Interviews, hires, supervises, trains, motivates, and performance management of Activities Assistants in conjunction with the Director of Life Enrichment; provides oversight to volunteers.
- Ensures that Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) requirements are being met and in compliance with Sequoia Living policies and procedures and the California Code of Regulations, Title 8.
- Recognizes and reports concerns regarding residents' physical, mental, and/or emotional status to a member of Management Staff. Participates as an active member of the Inter-disciplinary Team.
- Provides back up to the Life Enrichment Assistant and/or Director of Life Enrichment as needed.
- Performs other work as assigned.

Who You Are:
- Associate Arts degree in Recreation or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Recreation Therapy or a related field preferred. Minimum of two (2) years recent experience in a social or recreational program, completion of or ability to completion ARF Activities Leadership Training course approved by the state of California within one (1) year and all other requirements under Federal and State laws for the position. Experience in aging or related services preferred. Experience in a skilled nursing environment highly desirable.
- Knowledge of OBRA regulations, Title 22 and Division 5 and 6 California Administrative Code concerning the provision of activities. Demonstrated knowledge of activities programs and techniques associated with the scope and complexity of care required by residents served. Knowledge of and access to community resources. Knowledge of bereavement, grief and loss management theory and practice. Basic knowledge of exercise and other equipment used in activities.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate ideas, presentations, and instructions to residents and staff. Good English written and verbal communication skills to be able to interact with the resident and document notes. Organizational and analytical skills to plan and complete work assignments with minimal supervision and within established deadlines. Sound judgment skills to assess needs and determine appropriate course of action in emergency situations.
