Information and Assistance Specialist

We are hiring a bilingual (English and Cantonese) Information and Assistance Specialist who provides assessment, information, referral and assistance to older adults and adults with disabilities. Collects, updates and shares information on community resources, performs outreach as necessary to meet specific goals and records all necessary data in a timely fashion. Works in a team setting, collaborating with other agencies and the Institute on Aging (IOA) Information and Assistance Supervisor doing similar work, and integrating seniors and adults with disabilities into the services and programs of the San Francisco Senior Center. What You Will Do:
- Collaborates with other agencies doing similar work and with the IOA Information and Assistance Supervisor following Aging and Disability Resource Center grant guidelines.
- Utilizes quality customer service skills, conducts intake and needs assessments of all clients in order to provide them with information and/or referrals to agencies, resources, or services that match their needs.
- Assists clients in accessing needed services and advocates on their behalf, including but not limited to contacting agencies on behalf of clients, filling out forms, writing letters, or making phone calls to set up or confirm appointments.
- Provides clients with information and/or translation services. Refers appropriate clients to SFSC Service Coordinator. Provides follow-up confirming that clients obtain needed services.
- Establishes contacts and maintains good working relationships with key personnel in other agencies, including community-based service providers and citywide providers.
- Promotes utilization of services by conducting outreach to businesses, groups and individuals; schedules and makes presentations to various agencies as needed. Represents SFSC at relevant resource fairs.
- Completes proper documentation, data entry of reports, and submits monthly service logs and reports as needed. Maintains organized, accurate and complete documentation.
- Assists in SFSC business needs such as opening and closing of the facility, supporting center staff team as necessary.
- Additional responsibilities as needed.

- Monday and Wed 7:30 - 4:00 pm. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 pm.

- Experience and interest in providing health, social, and/or aging services in the community to seniors or persons with disabilities from diverse communities. Knowledge of community resources. Demonstrated proficient interpersonal, verbal, and written English communication skills. Instructional and presentation skills to present information. Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Good problem-solving skills, creative thinking skills, research skills, and ability to follow through. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Associate’s degree and minimum of five years related work experience required. Bachelor's degree in Social Services, Gerontology, or related field preferred. Bilingual in Cantonese or Mandarin.
