The hourly pay range for this position is $28–$34, based on experience and qualifications.

RK Overview

RK Industries (RK) is a second-generation, family-owned business built on hard work and strong values. Led by brothers Rick and Jon Kinning, RK delivers hands-on services across construction, manufacturing, custom fabrication, and building services. Seven specialized business units work in close coordination to bring customers’ ideas to life with a strong focus on safety and quality.

Position Summary

In this primarily local role, you will operate an assigned day-cab tractor and flatbed trailer to transport steel pipe, HVAC materials, gaskets, and other RK-manufactured products to construction sites and other destinations. Occasional overnight or interstate travel may be required.

This is an on-site position; remote and hybrid work are not available. When driving work is limited by scheduling or weather, you may support the docks, sheet metal shop, tool shop, receiving, shipping, or other logistics functions. You will work closely with dispatchers and coordinators as part of a safety-focused team.

Role Responsibilities

  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and maintain hours-of-service logs using Motive.
  • Maintain contact with dispatchers and coordinators to receive instructions, report equipment issues, and respond to schedule changes.
  • Operate safely with dual-facing AI cameras and other vehicle telematics.
  • Prepare, receive, and provide documentation for deliveries and pickups to support timely service.
  • Inspect and secure flatbed loads using appropriate tarps, chains, binders, and cargo-securement methods; the shipping crew loads materials, but the driver is responsible for securement and safe delivery.
  • Maintain assigned equipment and report repair needs promptly; tractors remain at the RK facility when not in use.
  • Support logistics operations when not driving, including work in the docks, sheet metal shop, tool shop, receiving, shipping, material handling, parts cleaning, and housekeeping.
  • Record time accurately and train on equipment as required.
  • Assist other employees and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work a typical schedule of approximately 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with flexibility for earlier starts, later finishes, occasional overtime, and minimal weekend work based on job-site and business needs.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL); Class B licenses do not meet the requirements of this role.
  • Current DOT medical card before hire.
  • Eligibility to drive under RK’s insurance policy and ability to pass required driver-record, FMCSA Clearinghouse, and pre-employment compliance reviews.
  • At least three years of commercial driving experience; five or more years is preferred.
  • Flatbed driving experience, including hands-on cargo securement and tarping with chains and binders.
  • Experience transporting construction materials to active job sites, rather than only dock-to-dock or dry-van driving.
  • Experience driving in mountainous terrain and adverse weather conditions, with sound judgment about changing road and weather conditions.
  • Willingness to support loading, yard, and shop work in addition to driving duties.
  • Working knowledge of relevant trade materials and tools.
  • Experience using Motive or similar electronic logging and telematics systems is a plus.

Minimum Physical Requirements and Accountability

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in dusty, noisy, hazardous, or adverse conditions and in all types of weather.
  • Ability to work in high, tight, or confined spaces as required.
  • Ability to climb, balance, squat, kneel, and crouch.
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Wear required PPE, including a hard hat when working on flatbeds, and follow RK and job-site safety procedures.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Take accountability for safety and health by stopping work and immediately notifying a supervisor when an unsafe condition is present.
