Start-Up & Commissioning Leader

Up to $145,000/year + Annual Incentive Bonus Eligibility

At RK, our Start-Up & Commissioning Leaders play a critical role in bringing complex mechanical projects across the finish line. In this role, you'll lead the critical closeout phase of mechanical construction by coordinating start-up, commissioning, testing, and final turnover to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest technical standards.

Working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and owners' commissioning agents, you'll serve as a technical resource throughout the start-up and commissioning process. You'll troubleshoot challenges, drive accountability, coordinate resources, and keep projects moving through one of their most critical phases.

With RK's in-house fabrication, manufacturing, construction, and building services capabilities, you'll have the resources and expertise of an integrated team behind you.

What You'll Lead

  • Review and understand project contract documents, plans, specifications, and requirements

  • Support Project Managers with equipment tracking and start-up matrices

  • Plan, schedule, and oversee the start-up of mechanical and plumbing equipment

  • Manage and schedule start-up Foremen and Superintendents

  • Troubleshoot and conduct forensic investigations related to construction and commissioning issues

  • Collaborate with project teams to maintain project schedules from start-up through closeout

  • Coordinate directly with mechanical equipment vendors for vendor-required start-ups

  • Work closely with and support the owner's commissioning agent

  • Provide technical support to resolve commissioning issues and keep projects moving

  • Develop and maintain manpower projections and schedules for start-up activities

  • Oversee and document installation verification and pre-functional testing

  • Coordinate with temperature controls and test-and-balance subcontractors throughout commissioning

  • Coordinate project team activities supporting smoke control testing

  • Help drive projects through final closeout and successful turnover

What You Bring

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in mechanical construction, commissioning, start-up, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Advanced knowledge and experience within mechanical construction and project closeout

  • Ability to lead and coordinate complex start-up and commissioning activities

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and make decisions related to complex technical issues

  • Experience coordinating with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and commissioning agents

  • Ability to provide technical direction and support across multiple project teams

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Comfortable serving as a technical liaison with internal teams and external partners
