What you will be working on:

Reporting to the SVP, Head of Accounting, the Director, Accounting is responsible for managing impairment, straight-line rent, as well as accounting transactions for the Company’s domestic and international consolidated and unconsolidated joint ventures (JVs).  The position will frequently interact with our JV partners to ensure that the operations of the JVs are running in accordance with the applicable terms, perform accounting research on applicable questions, and report on the financial statements of the JVs. 

General Ledger 

  • Review quarterly FAS 144 analysis, held-for-sale listing and related impairments for global portfolio in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Review monthly straight-line rent calculation, reconciliation and fluctuation analysis for global portfolio in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Review monthly domestic and international consolidated and unconsolidated JV transactions, financial statements, journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Review monthly/quarterly distribution calculations to JV partner.

      Financial Reporting

      • Review quarterly impairment reporting schedules included in SEC filings.
      • Present impairment analysis to senior management.
      • Manage ongoing operational and financial performance reporting, including internal metrics, tracking and investor-level reporting, as mandated by the JV agreements.
      • Oversee and conduct analysis on JVs, prepare materials for internal discussion and approvals, and manage the preparation of the JV financial statements and disclosures.
      • Establishment and participation in the review procedures utilized for drafts of all JV financial packages, to ensure that backup ties to reported amounts.

        Research

        • Create and maintain JV accounting policies, processes, workflows and streamline internal processes to gain efficiencies and maintain sound internal controls.
        • Special projects, including performing accounting research, formally documenting the conclusions of management, and assisting the Technical Accounting Group to comply with new accounting standards and disclosures.

        Other Responsibilities

        • Understand all interfaces between the Company and JVs and intervene where necessary to ensure value creation and maintain support.
        • Monitor, manage or coordinate information requests, audits, and communications between JV parties.
        • Train, supervise and develop Accounting team members to maximize growth opportunities and accomplish department objectives.
        • Provide backup coverage for debt and derivatives review and disclosures.
        • Performs other duties as assigned.

             

            Qualifications:

            • Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
            • 8+ years of blended experience in industry and public accounting, preferably with real estate industry experience.
            • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
            • Possess problem-solving/analytical abilities, time management skills, and critical thinking ability
            • Strong financial acumen, including the ability to prepare and analyze financial statements and financial models.
            • Ability to execute in ambiguous situations and take the lead without explicit instructions.
            • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet public company reporting deadlines.
            • Clear and thorough understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
            • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
            • Strong presentation abilities, including the ability to communicate complex ideas to senior levels of management.
            • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

             

            What you will get in return:

            • The base salary for this role is in the range of $124,577 - $213,091.
            • You may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and an annual discretionary stock award, (dependent on date of hire) to be discussed during the initial phone interview. Base salary and total compensation package determined by the candidate's experience, knowledge, education, skills, performance, and abilities, as well as internal equity, company performance, and alignment with market data.
