The PENTA Building Group is searching for Senior Superintendents to join our Mission Critical team in Phoenix, AZ! This role will be a major contributor to our growing efforts in the Data Center/Mission Critical market sector. Relocation packages, travel stipends, and bonuses offered for out-of-state candidates.
A PENTA Senior Superintendent is responsible for the overall management of field operations on mission critical construction projects, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and cost goals are met. Working in partnership with the Project Manager and General Superintendent, this role provides leadership to on-site teams, coordinates field activities, and ensures seamless communication between trades, management, and clients. The Senior Superintendent sets the standard for execution excellence and reliability in the delivery of complex, high-availability facilities such as data centers and critical infrastructure projects.
A PENTA Senior Superintendent on mission critical projects will also:
- Lead all on-site construction activities, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans and specifications. Serve as the acting Superintendent when required on smaller or specialized projects.
- Supervise field crews, evaluate daily productivity, and ensure subcontractor performance aligns with project expectations.
- Lead daily field coordination and subcontractor meetings, establishing agendas and priorities.
- Lead development and management of project schedules, including short-interval plans and milestone tracking.
- Verify subcontractor durations and ensure alignment with master schedule.
- Anticipate critical path activities and implement recovery strategies when necessary.
- Possess a strong understanding of MEP systems—including electrical distribution, mechanical cooling, and controls integration common to mission critical environments.
- Coordinate closely with MEP trades to ensure installations are sequenced properly and ready for testing.
- Support commissioning (Cx) and integrated system testing (IST) activities by verifying field readiness, system completion, and punch list resolution.
- Implement and monitor QA/QC standards to ensure workmanship meets company and client expectations.
- Review and approve subcontractor QA/QC policies and coordinate with PENTA’s QA/QC team prior to installation.
- Participate in inspections, punch lists, and turnover processes to maintain compliance and quality standards.
- Monitor procurement schedules, long-lead materials, and equipment deliveries to prevent delays.
- Understand manufacturer lead times and anticipate constraints related to specialized mission critical equipment (e.g., UPS, switchgear, chillers, generators).
- Lead development of detailed logistics plans for complex projects, ensuring site safety and operational continuity.
- Participate in or lead BIM/VDC coordination meetings to validate constructability, identify field conflicts, and communicate required design resolutions.
- Review and validate subcontractor extra work tickets and potential change orders in collaboration with the Project Manager.
- Lead startup and turnover processes, ensuring all systems are tested, documented, and handed off according to mission critical standards.
- Ensure timely closeout documentation, including as-builts, O&M manuals, and warranty packages.
- Lead, teach, and mentor team members such as Superintendents, Project Engineers, and Interns.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support successful mission critical project execution.
We trust that you have:
- 7-10 years of experience in a Construction Superintendent role with 5+ years in mission critical projects
- Strong understanding of MEP systems, their sequencing, installation, and testing requirements
- Working knowledge of commissioning (Cx) and integrated system testing (IST) processes
- Degree in Construction Management or a related field is preferred
- OSHA 10 or 30 Certification is required
- Proficiency in utilizing programs such as P6, Bluebeam, and Autodesk Build
- Fluency in reading, quantifying, and analyzing construction drawings
- Competent understanding of construction scheduling and sequencing
- Flexibility and eagerness to embrace new technology and tools in the industry
