About the Role

An exhilarating position working as a key member of the JFK Field Maintenance Supervisory staff. In this role you will lead a diverse team of maintenance technicians on the day-to-day airfield and landside maintenance activities to achieving the efforts of maintaining our Port Authority priorities and standard’s. No day is the same in our efforts to maintain the 5000-acre vital aviation asset that is John F Kennedy international airport.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the FM-4 Maintenance Unit Supervisor (MUS) or a higher level supervisor, the selected candidate’s day-to-day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to supervising the activities of skilled and semi-skilled staff in a variety of maintenance disciplines such as Gardening, Housekeeping, Contract Administration, Structural, Paving, Masonry, Carpentry, Maintenance Equipment and Landscaping Service. Other duties include scheduling work assignments, administering the absence control program in accordance with various labor agreements and in-depth involvement in the airport’s snow removal operations.

  • Supervise the work of subordinates and train new employees.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish the needs of the maintenance unit. 
  • Respond to emergencies and assess maintenance response requirements as it pertains to any incident.
  • Communicate information to key airport stakeholders responsible for decision making during any incident or emergency.
  • Must be able to work coverage for all tour shifts as directed. (A Tour: 22:00 to 06:00) (B Tour: 06:00 to 14:00) (C Tour: 14:00 to 22:00)
  • Required to participate in the Airport Snow Removal Program
  • Maintain accurate and precise recordkeeping, logs, and documentation pertaining to their unit’s work.

The successful candidate must be able to pass a fingerprint-based Criminal History Check as mandated by 49CFR 1542, and will be required to obtain and maintain an Airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) ID card with DR-2 Airfield Driving and escort privileges.

The selected candidate must be able to respond to declared emergencies, including snow conditions and work on an overtime basis as a regular function of the job. Must be available to work any shift necessary, including weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications by the closing date of this job posting to be considered eligible for the position:

  • You must have three (3) years of full-time, paid maintenance work experience, with 1 year of paid full-time supervisory experience.
  •  You must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution required.
  • All applicants that meet the above qualifications and have been selected for an interview must also be qualified on a Port Authority Entry-Level Assessment (ESA) test prior. This test assesses supervisory skills and will be administered virtually.

Desired Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:

  • Knowledge of PA policies, procedures, and union agreements.
  • In depth knowledge of aeronautical and landside areas on the facility.
  • Familiarity with key airport stakeholders around the facility.
  • Knowledge of snow removal functions at the JFK facility.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the CMMS system and its use to accomplish Preventative, Corrective, and Emergency work, including scheduling, work order updating, and labor management.
  • Demonstrated experience with the use of personal computers, including the Microsoft Office suite of tools: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, etc.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of internal and external staff.
