Job Summary: The Director of Finance has responsibility for the control of the Odawa Casino Resort financial activities. The Director of Finance will lead the accounting, cage, drop, purchasing, shipping & receiving, and revenue audit departments both strategically and operationally. The Director of Finance will ensure compliance with all federal and tribal gaming regulations/laws and provide financial support to the property’s executive team.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure the integrity of all financial data produced by the department.
  • Coordinate the development of the annual Odawa Casino budget for approval by the General Manager.
  • Formulate and recommend policies on banking, receipt and distribution of funds, fiscal and accounting matters.
  • Direct oversight of the short and long-term cash management and arrangement of outside financing.
  • Oversee compliance issues; maintain an updated knowledge of Gaming Laws/Regulations applicable to areas of responsibility and safeguard all Enterprise assets through prompt reporting through the proper chain of command up to and including the Gaming Authority and/or Regulatory as necessary.
  • Establish, monitor, and maintain an effective system of internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Establish a system of troubleshooting financial problems to ensure cost effectiveness throughout the property.
  • Held accountable, to the highest degree, for the accuracy, confidentiality, and thoroughness of
  • departmental records and reports.
  • Responsible for creating and/or reviewing all quarterly reviewed financial statements and annually audited financial statements, which include Managements’ Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) statements.
  • Work with the independent auditors of the company and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted
  • Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) announcements.
  • Assist independent auditors as required. Address and correct audit findings regarding financial activities.
  • Ensure adequate internal controls and policies and procedures are in place for the departments under his/her direct supervision; and advise the General Manager on other departments’ need for improved internal control policies and procedures; and work with department managers and directors to ensure same.
  • Ensure and enforce compliance with NIGC minimum internal controls, State Compact and Gaming
  • Regulatory controls.
  • Oversee accounting, cage, drop, purchasing, shipping & receiving, and revenue audit departments.
  • Responsible for accounting, cash management, banking, borrowing, investing and safekeeping of securities.
  • Review and recommend contracts for approval.
  • Preparation and review of financial, budget, and management reports and related journals and source documents.
  • Responsible and accountable for short and long-term financial matters, policies and practices.
  • Reviews and advises on restrictive covenants and all other items of borrowing.
  • Establish and maintain financial institution relations.
  • Responsible for development, review, and recommendation of effective policies and procedures for all Finance Department function areas.
  • Oversee reconciliation of all casino bank accounts and casino operating banks and funds, responsible for
  • monthly financial statements.
  • Monitor financial performance and communicate with the executive team of Odawa Casino Resort.
  • Maintain awareness of the external environment; anticipate impact on the financial affairs of the company.
  • Participate in strategic planning activities and provide the executive team and Gaming Authority best
  • practice financial advice on all major gaming financial activities at Odawa Casino Resort.
  • Establish and control cash concentration and management systems.
  • Maintain internal control system with regard to cash collections and disbursements, and investments of excess cash.
  • Communicate with and provide information to the General Manager as requested or required.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial information and analysis to be utilized in controlling the operations and achieving the business plan of the enterprise.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with all internal and external finance customers.
  • Has authority to hire, terminate, promote, demote, transfer, provide training opportunities, recommend merit increases, evaluate performance, create and adjust performance standards, create and/or delegate staff scheduling, invoke disciplinary action and demonstrate the fair and equitable treatment of all Team Members.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent.
  • Seven (7) years of progressive experience in accounting management including two (2) years at a supervisory level.
  • Prior and demonstrated casino accounting management experience is required.
  • Current and relevant gaming industry knowledge.
  • Proficient with GAAP.
  • Must have excellent knowledge of the Tribal Minimum Internal Control Standards (TMICS).
  • Ability to lead and mentor a team.
  • Travel from building to building and local in-town travel is required.
  • Occasional out-of-town travel required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have excellent computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office products, and ability to quickly learn specialized software packages.
  • Great Plains eEnterprise experience preferred.
  • Must be able to meet Odawa Casino Resort internal supervisory or higher training and education requirements.
  • Must be flexible with shifts and days off.
  • You may be required to pass a skills assessment test to determine if you meet the minimum qualifications of the position.
  • Must be able to obtain a gaming license in accordance with the regulations established by the LTBB Gaming Regulatory Commission and be able to serve in the position under any other applicable law.
