Job Summary:  Under the supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Payroll Specialist processes payroll on a weekly basis and in a timely manner in accordance with applicable Federal and State regulations and laws, including any LTBB Tribal regulations and laws pertaining to this position.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Process Team Member time sheets into Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains payroll system.
  • Assist managers/supervisors in making corrections in the time keeping system.
  • Inquire and respond with department managers, supervisors, and front line Team Members with regard to payroll questions and information.
  • Validate status changes, terminations and Team Member personnel actions.
  • Accurate data entry of Team Member straight, overtime, holiday, and PTO/Personal hours.
  • Ensure a timely and accurate payroll processing for all Team Members, including payroll deductions for benefits, garnishments, Team Member purchases, etc.
  • Process and monitor garnishment orders and other issues that impact payroll processes per Tribal Court.
  • Maintain both physical and electronic files.
  • Prepare payroll journal entries.
  • Responsible for weekly submissions of 401k files, federal & state tax reporting.
  • Responsible for Monthly, Quarterly, and Year-end tax reporting.
  • Monitor, record, and balance allocated tips monthly.
  • Assist Accounting Manager with Payroll Month End Reconciliations.
  • Conducts oneself in a positive and professional manner, acting as a role model for all Team Members.
  • Maintain knowledge of all current and upcoming promotions and events at Odawa Casino Resort.
  • Greet all guests and Team Members in a friendly, open manner.
  • Complete all required training satisfactorily.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Work at other properties as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned within the scope of work.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent plus four (4) years’ experience with in-house payroll processing, including consolidation of timesheet information, maintaining payroll databases, distributing funds to employees, processing payroll tax payments, and payroll tax reporting; or Associate Degree in Accounting or Business and two (2) years’ experience with in-house payroll processing
  • Payroll certification preferred.
  • Great Plains experience preferred.
  • Must have experienced computer skills using Microsoft Office products or related software, and ability to quickly learn specialized software programs.
  • Must read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be flexible with shifts and days off with the ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays and special events, etc., as needed.
  • You may be required to pass an entry level payroll/accounting test.  
  • Must be able to obtain a gaming license in accordance to the regulations established by the LTBB Gaming Regulatory Commission, and be able to serve in the position under any other applicable law.
