About the Department
The Public Affairs Department consists of NYRR’s Media and Public Relations, Government Relations and Community Engagement teams. Media and Public Relations share the stories of NYRR participants, events, and programs to drive awareness to NYRR’s organization and mission, while also enhancing and protecting the company’s reputation. Government Relations & Community Engagement manages NYRR's relationships with local and state elected officials, and governmental agencies, as well as its relationships with community stakeholders, from our runners and clubs to like-minded organizations. Overall, representing NYRR's interests, Public Affairs serves as a centralized bridge and internal partner for the organization and governmental and community partners.
 
 
About the Position
Reporting to the Director of Public Relations—with indirect reporting into the Chief Communications Officer and the Head of Public Relations—the Media Credentials Coordinator will temporarily join the department leading into the TCS New York City Marathon, from July through early November. In this role, working 15-40 hours/week with hours increasing as the Marathon approaches on Sunday, Nov. 1, the Media Credentials Coordinator will be responsible for managing media credentials for the TCS New York City Marathon, reviewing credential applications and coverage requests from 300+ journalists across local, national, and international outlets. The Media Credentials Coordinator will also support the department with other media operations and tasks as needed, in addition to staffing various media events/races.
Job Responsibilities (primary and secondary duties):
  • Serve as main media credentials point of contact for the TCS New York City Marathon, from the application process to credential distribution to onsite on race day, to ensure all accredited media are accommodated and supported properly 
  • Lead the development and execution of the media credentials application, working closely with the overall TCS New York City Marathon security/credentials team to ensure the platform is accurate, efficient, and user-friendly; draft all application copy and instructions
  • Develop comprehensive media communications and materials that clearly outline the credentials process from start to finish and help set expectations for onsite media coverage
  • Maintain a detailed tracking system for incoming media credentials applications, researching relevant background information and making informed recommendations regarding application denial or approval and access zones
  • Use proper judgment and critical thinking skills to identify non-media credentials requests and pass along to the relevant NYRR teams
  • Oversee the media credentials distribution process during race week, including managing a support team of two to three people to ensure smooth media credentials pick-up operations onsite 
  • Assist with in-person / on-site media operations during the New Balance 5th Avenue Mile and TCS New York City Marathon race day. Responsibilities include but are not limited to media check-in, interview staffing, photo/video coordination, and supporting hospitality in media areas.
 
Job Requirements:
Experience
  • Experience in media relations, large-scale events, and/or credentialing preferred 
Education & Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in English, Public Relations, communications, journalism or related field preferred
Skills and Attributes:
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills 
  • A collaborator with strong project management skills
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to detail, and customer service
  • Excellent creative and critical thinking skills
  • Strong ability to multitask, meet and perform under tight deadlines, think clearly under pressure, and exercise good judgment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Experience with the credentials platform WRSTBND a plus
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Salary: 
$30/hour (Overtime Eligible)
