Job Summary
nLIGHT is looking for a Global Trade Compliance Manager, reporting to nLIGHT’s General Counsel. The Global Trade Compliance Manager will be responsible for and oversee the daily operations and strategic development of the global trade compliance function. This role ensures the company’s compliance with all applicable import/export laws and regulations across various regions, aligning with the company’s growth initiatives. Additionally, the role involves procuring and managing relationships with external service providers, establishing effective partnerships with Government officials, and fostering collaboration across the company. The Global Trade Compliance Manager proactively will identify export control issues and undertake research to analyze and develop effective and compliant solutions, develop and administer training, respond to regulatory questions and provide guidance, undertake internal investigations, implement risk mitigation strategies, stay abreast of regulatory changes, and draft and submit classification requests, advisory opinions, and export/import applications to various government agencies.
The position will be located in Camas, WA. Remote option also would be considered.
Responsibilities:
- Develop global trade compliance roadmap and strategy for the company.
- Be thoroughly familiar with the trade compliance related laws, rules, and regulations applicable in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Periodically review sanctions and embargo rules and regulations to ensure compliance.
- Identify risks and implement processes to minimize compliance risk to the company. Monitor regulatory changes and implement necessary company processes to meet evolving requirements.
- Evaluate the risk and feasibility of import/export compliance for new capabilities, new product lines, sourcing locations, and export markets.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand business requirements and regulatory constraints, and work with external partners to establish processes and procedures that ensure compliance while maximizing operational efficiency.
- Work closely with the company’s sales, shipping, logistics, and external customers to create strategies and solutions that enable the company to be compliant with applicable regulations and furthers the company’s goals and objectives.
- Foster communication and build relationships across the company's functions, vendors, and regulators.
- Conduct internal audits, provide feedback, and guidance to improve and maintain satisfactory compliance.
- Perform commodity jurisdiction and classification.
- Coordinate with program personnel to obtain export/import application information and review provisos on licenses and agreements to ensure business and customer requirements can be met by the license or agreement.
- Assists and/or performs in any and all areas as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience, or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
- Customs Brokerage License strongly preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of international trade regulations and practices, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
- Significant understanding of US Customs regulations
- Proven experience in directing and strengthening global trade compliance processes and procedures; building trade controls governance infrastructure.
- Ability to analyze, evaluate, develop and implement processes and procedures
- Technical expertise in the semiconductor industry preferred.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% travel time.

Starting pay depends on qualifications:
- Global Trade Compliance Manager: $90,000 - $120,000 annually
- Senior Global Trade Compliance Manager: $115,000 - $140,000 annually
