Summary
nLIGHT is seeking motivated Process Engineering Technicians to join our team in support of both prototype and volume production at our Hillsboro, OR facility. This individual will be responsible for sustaining volume production, troubleshooting process and equipment issues, continuous improvement activities related to process and equipment and support of production. Will enable next generation components and systems related to semiconductor diodes lasers, optics, and fiber coupled devices.
Functions
- Reporting to Engineering, act as first line of defense in troubleshooting equipment and process issues, routine data collection and effective communication of status and solutions
- Work collaboratively with process engineering to manage specific processes and assist in defining/executing continuous process improvements
- Develop, document, and perform routine process equipment maintenance
- Leadership in support, training, and certification of Production Personnel
- Support implementation of process and BoM changes on the line
- Lead by example in eliminating Process Engineering from Production’s critical path
- Drive continuous improvement opportunities utilizing wide variety of analytical techniques (such as SPC, DOE, Gage R&R), lean manufacturing and six sigma concepts
Qualifications
- 5+ years professional work experience in volume Production environment working with electronics, semiconductor equipment or opto-mechanical assemblies
- Associates Degree in Science/ Engineering or exceptional industrial experience in closely related technologies. Degree in Laser or optics technology is preferred
- Meticulous attention to detail, highly organized and self-motivated
- Experience in supporting process development of components, sub-systems, fibers, precision optical/electro-mechanical assemblies
- Strong record of problem solving and implementing robust process or equipment related changes
- Experience with new product introduction and product lifecycle process
- Understanding of mechanical drawings as well as basic tooling and fixture design
- Knowledge and understanding of optics, fibers, laser diodes and test equipment is highly preferred.
- Preferred certifications include Six Sigma Green Belt, IPC J-STD-001 for soldering, and Training Within Industry (TWI)

- Shift differentials are paid at the rate of 10% for hours worked between 5:30PM and 12:00AM and at 15% for hours worked between 12:00AM and 5:30AM
