NeoGenomics is looking for an Environmental Health & Safety Technician II within the Facilities department in our Aliso Viejo, CA location who wants to continue to learn in order to allow our company to grow.

Position Summary

The EHS Tech II is a hands-on role that implements and monitors Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs at the Aliso Viejo site and provides additional support across the network as needed. The role partners closely with laboratory technicians, facility associates, and external vendors to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations within a regulated clinical laboratory environment. The EHS Tech II engages proactively in safety practices, executes EHS initiatives directly, and aligns consistently with state and federal requirements.

 

Core Responsibilities

• Partner with lab personnel, facilities staff, and vendors to implement EHS procedures and ensure day-to-day compliance

• Conduct hands-on inspections, hazard assessments, and safety interventions in laboratory and facility spaces

• Coordinate and lead spill response, emergency drills, waste management activities, and other on-site safety initiatives

• Implement and maintain training programs for lab and facilities teams and ensure records are accurate and up-to-date

• Manage chemical inventory, SDS database accuracy, and annual chemical sweeps and support hazard communication for all employees

• Oversee hazardous, biohazardous, and universal waste handling, storage, and disposal in compliance with California and federal regulations

• Participate in injury/illness investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action follow-up

• Support cross-site auditing and regulatory inspections and prepare required documentation and evidence of compliance

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives in ergonomics, risk reduction, energy/waste minimization, and cost-saving compliance programs

• Serve as a first responder for chemical spills and coordinate with external emergency response partners as needed

• Assist in developing and co-leading EHS committee meetings and communicate safety performance metrics and trends

• Other duties may be assigned as applicable

 

Experience, Education, and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Science, Occupational Health or equivalent work experience required
  • 3+ years of EHS experience in a laboratory or hospital setting, covering hazardous materials/waste, safety inspections, risk assessments, decontamination, ergonomics, and emergency management required with international EHS regulatory experience preferred
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification required
  • DOT/IATA Hazardous Materials Transportation required
  • California Title 22 Hazardous Waste Management required
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification required
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Training (per Cal-OSHA) required
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) preferred

• Demonstrates working knowledge of OSHA, Cal-OSHA, RCRA, DOT/IATA, NFPA, EPA, CUPA, and other relevant regulations

• Apply strong project management and problem-solving skills and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously

• Communicates effectively and influences staff at all levels

• Maintains detail orientation, acts proactively, and makes independent decisions

• Participates in and leads emergency drills and real-time incident response

• Stands, walks throughout the facility, sits, talks, and hears during regular duties

• Uses hands and fingers and reaches with hands and arms

• Occasionally lifts and moves up to 30 pounds

• Use close vision and adjust focus as needed

• Occasionally works in outside weather conditions

• Experiences moderate noise levels

• Interacts with laboratory equipment, samples, supplies, and personnel while wearing appropriate PPE

• Develops metrics and works with data reporting and tracking systems preferred

• Manages projects and EHS compliance within a healthcare setting preferred

• Works under pressure to meet deadlines, prioritizes effectively, and adapts to a dynamic environment preferred

• Creates and delivers EHS trainings and programs preferred

• Simultaneously manages multiple projects and responsibilities, adjusts to changing priorities, and makes timely, accurate decisions based on available information preferred

• Applies critical thinking techniques and solves problems systematically preferred

• Collaborates as a team player with strong interpersonal skills across globally diverse, cross-functional internal and external teams in multiple locations, states, and time zones preferred

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Smartsheet preferred

• Communicates and presents information clearly in both oral and written form preferred

Pay Range (will vary based on location & experience) $69,000 to $89,000

In all instances, the salary paid will satisfy minimum salary laws.
