Position Summary:

The Senior Manager Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) is responsible for leading, developing, implementing, and continuously improving companywide EH&S programs across all North American facilities. The role ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and international regulations while supporting operations within the organization's ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems, fostering a strong safety culture, supporting business continuity, managing environmental and operational risks, and partnering with business leaders to achieve organizational objectives.

The Senior Manager serves as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on EH&S matters, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, emergency preparedness, business continuity, and continuous improvement initiatives. The position provides leadership and direction to cross-site EH&S and Business Continuity teams, ensuring consistent implementation of programs, standards, policies, and risk management practices while supporting business growth, operational excellence, and organizational resilience.

Salary range: $150K-$175K 

Job Function:

  • Develops and executes the company's EH&S strategy, objectives, and performance metrics to support business goals, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across all North American facilities; ensures all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures are effectively implemented and communicated throughout the organization
  • Leads the company's cross-site EH&S function, ensuring alignment of programs, priorities, resources, and performance objectives across all locations; develops, manages, and administers departmental operating and capital budgets, ensuring effective allocation of resources and alignment with business objectives
  • Establishes and monitors leading and lagging EH&S performance indicators and provides regular reporting, analysis, and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Drives a proactive safety culture through leadership engagement, risk assessments, incident prevention initiatives, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Partners with Operations, Engineering, Facilities, Quality, Human Resources, Supply Chain, and other business leaders to proactively identify and mitigate safety, environmental, and operational risks that may impact business performance.
  • Supports facility expansions, capital projects, process changes, and equipment installations by ensuring EH&S requirements and risk mitigation measures are incorporated into project planning and execution.
  • Acts as a strategic advisor to the Company's Business Continuity Program, ensuring that environmental health and safety considerations are incorporated into the appropriate governance, resources, and organizational readiness to support operational resilience.
  • Partners with the Business Continuity Manager and business leaders to establish EH&S specific priorities, review preparedness and recovery capabilities, and support continuous improvement of business continuity programs; specific to the EH&S portion of the business continuity plan.
  • Designs, implements, and maintains hazardous materials programs, including all mandated reporting and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Leads and/or supports emergency response activities and programs.
  • Manages chemical handling programs with respect to chemical use, storage, handling, recycling, and disposal; makes recommendations for improvement and executes accordingly. Oversee safety data sheet (SDS) management and new chemical review.
  • Provides recommendations and programs for compliance with relevant regulatory agencies including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, DOT, and all other applicable federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures EH&S programs, policies, procedures, and management systems support compliance with regulatory requirements and the organization's ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems; conducts, schedules, and maintains ISO 14001 internal audit programs and related corrective action activities
  • Ensures fire safety systems, including fire sprinklers, alarms, suppression systems, and extinguishers, are maintained in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Partners with Human Resources and Learning & Development to design, develop, implement, and maintain safety training programs and associated documentation.
  • Creates and maintains facility-specific emergency response plans and oversee safety committee activities.
  • Ensures all compliance reports, including but not limited to TRI, Right-to-Know, OSHA 300, and other required filings, are completed accurately and submitted on time.
  • Obtains and maintains all environmental, safety, and operational permits as required by applicable laws and regulations.
  • Evaluates company operations, equipment, facilities, and processes to identify hazards, determine appropriate controls, and establish requirements for personal protective equipment, ventilation systems, industrial hygiene monitoring, and risk reduction initiatives.
  • Oversees procurement and availability of safety equipment and required safety training resources.
  • Successfully completes and maintains applicable certifications, including DOT/IATA Dangerous Goods certification, HAZWOPER training, and required Certificates of Fitness.
  • Leads incident investigations for safety and environmental incidents, ensuring root cause analysis, corrective actions, lessons learned, and sustainable risk reduction measures are implemented.
  • Maintains the AED management program and ensures required inspections and training activities are completed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety or related discipline (Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, etc.) required
  • 10+ years of progressive EH&S experience, including leadership responsibility
  • Manufacturing environment experience required
  • Experience leading multi-site EH&S programs and teams
  • Experience providing leadership oversight for emergency preparedness and risk management required; business continuity experience a plus
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable federal, state, and local EH&S regulations; OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Experience supporting executive-level management.
  • Experience coaching leaders and employees at all levels of the organization.
