Position Summary
Provides leadership and direction for the Instrumentation and Electrical team to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems at Methanex Geismar. Supports the achievement of strategic objectives by maintaining high standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and plant reliability.
Position Responsibilities
- Effectively leads the Instrumentation and Electrical team, aligning efforts with the strategic objectives of the department, site, and organization
- Develops the competencies and capabilities of the team, ensuring proper succession planning
- Conducts regular performance evaluations, offering career guidance through CMAS and delivering constructive feedback to reinforce strengths and address growth opportunities
- Motivates and engages team members to consistently perform at a high level, promoting a culture of accountability and excellence
- Collaborates with other team leaders to address operational challenges and drive improvements in efficiency, effectiveness, & productivity
- Provides input to develop strategic goals for the site
- Communicates to stakeholders effectively and timely
- Oversees contractor relationships, ensuring compliance, performance, and alignment with site standards and expectations
- Manages the I/E maintenance program to ensure safe, reliable, efficient, timely, and cost effective execution aligned with quality standards
- Manages the I/E maintenance budget and schedule, ensuring optimal resource utilization
- Supports the team in achieving tactical objectives by providing necessary tools and equipment and by removing operational barriers
- Responds to unplanned equipment failures to minimize production impact, reallocating resources, and integrating appropriate risk mitigation strategies
- Supervises shutdown and turnaround work
- Manages I/E contractors and maintenance contracts in compliance with contractor management system requirements
- Collaborates with other crafts and departments to ensure coordinated and aligned execution of maintenance activities
- Provides guidance to the team to troubleshoot plant issues and identify root causes, ensuring timely resolutions
- Reviews team logs, reports, and QA/QC documentation, ensuring corrective actions are implemented as needed
- Audits jobs plans, JSA’s documents, and field execution activities
- Proactively seeks more efficient ways to design, plan, and execute work
- Ensures all plant maintenance is implemented in accordance with Methanex standards, best practices, and all relevant USA legislation
- Demonstrates agility in responding to shifting priorities and operational needs
- Available for call-out to support urgent plant requirements
- Collaborates with Maintenance Reliability team to resolve plant performance issues
- Recognizes the Operations team as a key stakeholder and customer in executing duties
- Ensures that all plant changes are implemented in accordance with the applicable Methanex Management of Change procedures
- Manages design plans and executes moderately complex capital projects
- Ensures work is performed efficiently and cost effectively
- Actively seeks out continuous improvement opportunities that enhances HSSEQ, productivity, reliability, and cost efficiency

Position Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Instrument or electrical trade certification
- Associate degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline preferred
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience with plant maintenance, including supervisory duties
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and asset management system software
- Possesses effective communication skills
- Experience with predictive and preventative maintenance program preferred
- Experience with electrical distribution and substation maintenance preferred
- Experience with instrument calibration programs preferred
- Experience with continuous emission systems and process analyzers preferred
- Experience with DCS, ESD and PLC systems preferred
- Experience with managing projects preferred
- Knowledge of SIS ISA 84 standard and NFPA70E preferred
- Able to work in a dynamic environment within a diverse and global team preferred
- Able to effectively challenge traditional thinking and practices preferred
