Position Summary
The Product Handling Coordinator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable handling, loading, and shipping of methanol by truck and vessel. This includes indirect leadership and support of utility operators, compliance with Responsible Care, and alignment with Methanex’s global standards for loading/unloading facilities, vessel interface, safety inspections, and closed loading/sampling. The role also ensures timely communication with Marketing & Logistics (M&L), accurate documentation, and vendor qualification. 
 
Responsibilities
  • Shipping and Logistics
    • Manage truck and vessel loading operations to balance methanol production and shipping volumes. 
    • Establish and communicate loading schedules aligned with tank inventories.
    • Liaise with Marketing & Logistics to communicate delays, outages, and issues affecting customer orders.
    • Prepare accurate shipping documentation in compliance with regulations.
    • Record and investigate customer complaints, ensure corrective actions are taken. 
    • Complete and submit vendor qualification forms.
    • Verify safety, insurance, and compliance documentation.
    • Maintain updated records of qualified vendors.
  • Maintenance
    • Coordinate with Operations Maintenance Coordinator or Maintenance department to ensure inspections, calibrations, and repairs in the utilities area.
    • Verify safety equipment (gas detectors, monitors) calibration and event logs.
    • Track tools and equipment requiring repair or certification.
    • Manage purchasing and supplies in Maximo to avoid disruption.
    • Maintain updates and health of standard work in Hexagon J5, (checklists, forms, rounds) related to logistics. 
    • Ensures safety equipment (ammonia/methanol monitors, gas detectors) are bump tested, calibrated, and event logs downloaded. 
  • Leadership
    • Participate in orientation, onboarding, training and mentorship of operators training in utilities to ensure competence.
    • Teach utilities operators inventory requirements as well as billing and customs preparation.  
    • Participates on as needed basis in recruitment and selection processes for positions within the operations team.
    • Documents and reports to the Shift Supervisor all personnel issues for corrective action and traceability.
  • Legislative and Company Policy Compliance
    • Performs compliance checks to ensure routine and non-routine job tasks are performed in compliance with company policies/procedures and regulating entities. (OSHA, USCG, TCEQ, EPA, PHMSA etc.)
    • Participates in HAZOPs for all non-routine tasks.
    • Reports (internally & externally) all incidents within the product handling area. Participates in investigations, assigns corrective actions, and ensures they are followed through to completion. Participates in Cause Mapping/Tap Root Investigations as assigned by the Site Management Team.
    • Participates in the Work Safety Control System as an Area and Performing Authority.
    • Participates in External & Internal Audits Ensures findings are recorded and followed through to completion.
    • Works with product handlers to update work instructions and checklists as per company policy/procedure and regulating entities. 
    • Verify spill containment, grounding, alarms, static controls, and emergency shutdown systems are maintained functional.
    • Ensure ship/shore agreements, emergency shutdown criteria, and communication systems are understood between Methanex and Jefferson Terminal employees
    • Oversee vessel safety inspection programs, joint inspections, signed Letters of Responsibility, and 6-hourly re-checks during transfers.
    • Enforce closed loading, gauging, and sampling procedures to minimize exposure

    • Performs process and non- process safety audits as required by Methanex Beaumont
    • Participates and ensures participation of product handlers, in Behavioral Based Safety Program (EOS).
  • Ensures accuracy of spreadsheet entries.
  • Ensures accuracy of information used to create billing patterns and customs documents to build templates for Customs documents and Bills of Lading.
  • Ensures safety of loading facilities by completing a monthly inspection in accordance with Methanex standards. 
  • Make departmental decisions regarding utilities in the absence of the Superintendent and in collaboration with the Operations Manager. 
 
Qualifications
Education, Experience, and/or Training 
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent. 
  • Relevant safety training an asset. e.g., Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training, Gas Detection Training, Fall Protection Training, First Aid Training, and Work Safety Control Training.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 
  • Minimum of 3 years working in a manufacturing facility. Process operations or Maintenance experience preferred and 5 years' experience preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience.  
  • Understanding of DOT and RRC regulations or ability to quickly gain knowledge. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications.

Security Clearance Requirements 
  • Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
Physical 
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move more than 10 pounds occasionally. 
  • Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extensive periods of time. 
  • Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.  
  • Ability to work with a moderate noise level in the work environment is required.
Work Schedule 
  • Monday – Friday between 8:00am – 5:00pm, working the 9/80 schedule. 
  • Work schedule may include nights, weekends, or taking calls off hours as needed.
Travel 
  • Travel not anticipated in this role, up to 10% may be required.
