Only candidates local to the Chicagoland area will be considered
Hybrid: In Office Every Thursday in Elmhurst, IL Required
The UX/UI Designer will lead the UX design of our Driver facing solutions. This hands-on role focuses on creating clear, intuitive, and professional user experiences that simplify complex order fulfillment for all market segments for our employed Drivers and also outside couriers and courier partners. Partnering closely with Product and Engineering, the designer will translate user needs into thoughtful UX experiences and polished, production-ready UI designs.
UX & interaction design
- Design end-to-end Driver applications (web and mobile) for MedSpeed employees, outside couriers, and courier vendor partners.
- Map real routes and stops to find friction, remove taps, decisions, and cognitive load from tasks drivers repeat hundreds of times a day.
- Move from wireframes to clickable Figma prototypes fast enough to test ideas before they’re expensive.
- Design for the unglamorous cases that decide whether software works in the field: offline states, failed scans, wrong addresses, partial pickups, error recovery.
- Deliver production-ready UI and annotated specs Engineering can build from without a follow-up meeting.
Visual design & design system
- Produce high-fidelity designs for responsive web and native mobile, which is primarily Android, with an eye toward iOS conventions where relevant.
- Apply hierarchy, typography, spacing, and contrast so critical information is legible at a glance, at arm’s length, in bad lighting.
- Modernize the interface while staying true to MedSpeed brand guidelines.
- Build and maintain a lightweight design system with reusable components and documentation that keep quality high as the product grows.
Collaboration
- Partner with the CPTO and Product Leads to understand intent and business objectives before pixels exist.
- Join discovery early to make sure we’re solving the right problem and push back when we’re not.
- Work directly with Tech Leads on feasibility, then stay involved through refinement, sprint planning, design QA, and release.
- Represent the driver’s reality in product debates while respecting business and technical constraints.
Continuous improvement
- Use analytics, usage patterns, and frontline feedback from support and operations to find where the experience breaks down.
- Propose changes that measurably reduce training time, support tickets, and time per stop.
- Keep simplifying as the product grows. Complexity accumulates unless someone actively fights it.
Skills for Success
- 5+ years designing UX/UI for web and/or mobile applications.
- A portfolio that shows how you think, demonstrating clean, structured interfaces, responsive web, native mobile, and at least one genuinely complex workflow you made simple. We care more about your reasoning than your renders.
- Experience designing software people use to get a job done for enterprise, B2B SaaS, operational, logistics, or frontline/field tools.
- Fluency in Figma, including prototyping and component libraries.
- Solid grasp of responsive layout and native mobile patterns (Android in particular).
- Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and why they matter more, not less, in the field.
- Enough understanding of front-end constraints to design things that can actually be built.
- The ability to explain a design decision to an engineer, an executive, and a driver — and adjust it when one of them is right.
- Strong understanding of responsive layouts and native mobile design patterns (iOS and Android).
- Basic understanding of front-end development constraints and implementation considerations.
- Ability to clearly communicate design decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in UX Design, Interaction Design, HCI, Product Design, Graphic Design, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent practical experience and a portfolio that speaks for itself.
