JOB TITLE:              Bus Foreman
DEPARTMENT:        Maintenance
REPORTS TO:         Director of Maintenance

JOB FUNCTION:     Supervises the daily work of a small Maintenance work group in a manner consistent with FTA requirements and regulations.

PAY RATE:  $55,650 annually/ $26.75 hourly

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Is assigned to supervise small work groups within the Maintenance department.
  2. Schedules work assignments, monitors work priorities, and ensures work standards for the Maintenance department are followed.
  3. Dispatches employees for road calls.
  4. Ensures employee compliance with general shop and OSHA rules in assigned work areas.
  5. Coordinates work between shift groups through a thorough turnover.
  6. Instructs new employees on Company procedures, job performance expectations, and safety.
  7. Evaluates employees in the work group through performance reviews.
  8. Works with Maintenance upper management to coach the work group employees on how to correct performance deficiencies and recommends disciplinary action when warranted.
  9. Monitors established procedures and work methods for the Maintenance department and employees.
  10. Continuously monitors the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures. Provides feedback to management.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLILITIES:

  1. Requisitions bus parts for repairs.
  2. Reports facility issues to the Manager of Building and Grounds.
  3. Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education:

High school diploma or GED required.

Other:

  1. Minimum 3 years' experience as a Diesel Mechanic in the repair of auto or diesel engines.
  2. Previous supervisory experience preferred along with Cummins, Alison, hybrid multiplex, and HVAC experience.
  3. Must be able to effectively supervise and administer work policies and regulations. 
  4. Must possess strong organizational and analytical skills.
  5. Must be able to handle numerous activities at one time.
  6. A good track record with vendor relationships is also critical.
  7. Must have ability to do same work as those supervised and be able to assist if necessary.
  8. Must be able to understand, interpret and implement a labor agreement and work collaboratively in a union environment.
  9. Must possess effective oral and written skills and have demonstrated use of basic computer software programs used in a maintenance shop environment.
  10. Ability to use Microsoft Word is required and familiarity with Trapeze is preferred.
  11. Regular and consistent attendance is required.
  12. Must be able to work varying shift hours and days as assigned.
  13. Must be willing to comply with MATA’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.
  14. Must always comply with safety and COVID protocols and display a safety mindset.

Environment:  

  1. Extensive standing and walking are required. Some sitting is required while using office equipment such as computers, phones, etc.
  2. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl and crouch to get into tight areas and must be able to lay horizontally under a vehicle.
  3. Most work will be performed under indoor maintenance shop conditions, but should be
  4. able to tolerate changes in building environment, such as with or without air conditioning or heating, and withstand exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, engine odors, and extreme noise levels.
  5. Must be able to climb on a laddeor other equipment up to heights as high as the roof of a transit bus.
  6. May be required occasionally to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise reposition objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  7. Fingering and repetitive motions will be required for data entry, while picking items up or while filing.
  8. Able to express or exchange ideas with others accurately and at an easily audible volume using spoken words.
  9. Able to receive detailed information through oral communication or by phone at usual speaking levels and differentiate between sounds in the environment.
  10. Close visual acuity to perform detail-oriented activities, as well as acuity to perform activities at or within arm’s reach with skill, control, and accuracy, such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing a computer screen, or significant reading of documents and other materials.
