Job Title:                    Mental Skills Coach

Department:               Player Development

Reports to:                 Mental Skills Coordinator, Baseball Development

Status:                        Exempt 

Primary Objective: Responsible for coordination, support, and assistance of coaches and players in developing their philosophies, awareness, vision, and processes as it relates to mental performance. Contribute to the knowledge and application of the Mariners Mental Skills curriculum for individual and organizational success.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare and execute group presentations that emphasize and reinforce Focus Points and Mental Performance manual for mini camps, Spring Training, and during the affiliate seasons.
  • Create a system and a set of routines that will condition the coaches and athletes to develop an attitude and a focus that will give them the best opportunity to perform at their potential.
  • Conduct 1-on-1 meetings and create individualized mental performance plans for players and coaches.
  • Support coaching staff with relevant mental skills information while always being available as a resource.
  • Follow documentation protocol to track services provided throughout the year.
  • Pursue continued education and research in the sport psychology industry to stay up to date on optimal and ethical practices.
  • Assist the Mental Performance Department with the development, implementation, and evaluation of mental performance services provided for the organization.
  • Communicate consistently and appropriately with members of Mental Performance Department, Player Development, High Performance, and other parties as needed.
  • Must be open to giving and receiving feedback on work provided.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Sport Psychology, or related field preferred
  • Minimum two (2) years’ relevant work experience required
  • Basic Spanish speaking proficiency

  • Implement the Focus Points book and develop an expert level knowledge of the Peak Performance manual.
  • Possess a working knowledge of the Mariners performance metrics.
  • Maintain an expert knowledge of relevant technologies and Mariner’s portals.
  • Possess strong initiative and personal standard, as most work will be conducted on an individual basis (working with staff & coaches, working with players, documentation).
  • Possess the ability to self-reflect and display personal & situational awareness.

Physical Activities and Working Conditions:

  • Travel to affiliates throughout the organization may be required
  • Attend and assist with pre and/or postseason camps as assigned by the Director of Player Development as needed

 

The Mariners are committed to providing competitive pay, perks, and benefits packages for our valued Team Members.   
The anticipated starting pay for this role is between $50,000-$70,000. All perks are subject to eligibility requirements and availability and may be modified or amended from time to time.
