A day in the life of a PRN Lab Assistant…
- Demonstrates ability to consistently meet work schedule demands in the clinic.
- Obtains adequate blood specimens from patients using appropriate specimen collection and handling procedures.
- Labels all specimens in accordance with clinical laboratory standards and Clinic policies and procedures.
- Prepares specimens for delivery or delivers to appropriate laboratory areas.
- Within scope of training, performs laboratory testing utilizing laboratory equipment in accordance with Clinic policies/procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
- Performs Quality Controls and Quality Assurance within scope of testing.
- Performs computer functions to support collection and processing of specimens.
- Able to function proficiently within Centricity, Allscripts and Orchard systems.
- Maintains awareness of own safety in carrying out duties and responsibilities. Adheres to universal precautions and infection control policies and procedures.
- Assumes accountability for enhancing own knowledge through workshops, in-services, etc.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and uses discretion in patient interactions.
- Promotes a positive, professional image of The Iowa Clinic both internally and externally. Promotes positive interpersonal relations with all personnel.
