Overview

The IT Operations Team, within the Information and Communication Systems Office, is dedicated to managing the IT Infrastructure, and Client Services.

INL is seeking a qualified Senior IT Infrastructure Administration Officer to join the team in Systems Administration activities.

 

Job Duties

The Senior IT Infrastructure Administration Officer will play a critical role in managing a streamline, cutting-edge IT Infrastructure. The Officer will take part in the design and implementation of new IT solutions support processes, and services that are aligned with the organisational goals of achieving excellence in research.

 

The main job duties will be the following:

  • Install, configure, and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, access points, etc…, and monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues;
  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, performing regular system updates and patch management, and managing server backups and disaster recovery solutions;
  • Implement and manage security measures to protect systems from cyber threats, aligned with the Sec Ops Team;
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for IT Infrastructure users;
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights;
  • Install, configure, and maintain software applications and server operating systems, ensuring software licenses are up-to-date and compliant with regulations;
  • Perform regular system health checks and maintenance tasks;
  • Automate routine tasks using scripts and tools;
  • Develop and maintain backup strategies and schedules, perform regular data backups and verify the integrity of backups on a regular basis;
  • Restore data as needed and ensure business continuity;
  • Maintain comprehensive system documentation, including network diagrams, configuration files, and incident logs;
  • Generate regular reports on system performance, security incidents, and other relevant metrics;
  • Collaborate with IT team members and other departments to support organisational goals;
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to explain technical concepts and solutions;
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to recommend improvements and innovations.

 

Mandatory Qualifications

 

Education

  • Degree or MSc in Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or relevant certification.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT Infrastructure Administrator functions.

 

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Windows Server operating systems and Active Directory;
  • Experience with network configuration and management (routers, switches, firewalls);
  • Experience with datacenter computing and networking technologies;
  • Experience with backup solutions like Veeam, Commvault, etc;
  • Experience with Data Storage solutions;
  • Experience with WiFi solutions;
  • Experience in Next Generation Firewall solutions;
  • Experience with virtualisation technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM;
  • Familiarity with cloud hyperscalers like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud;
  • Deep knowledge of networking stacks and concepts, and the ability to troubleshoot complex network connectivity issues.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications from Cisco, Microsoft and Virtualisation Vendors are a plus.

 

Personal Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills to identify and resolve technical issues efficiently;
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-oriented approach to ensure a positive support experience;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities;
  • Excellent communication skills in English are required since it’s the working language of INL;
  • Ability to work well as a team in an interdisciplinary environment;
  • Efficient time management and prioritisation skills.
