Overview
The Rossier Research Group is dedicated to Curiosity Driven Research on electronic, magnetic, and light-matter interaction of Quantum Nanostructures, with special emphasis on the quantum properties of two-dimensional systems. We are looking for a qualified research fellow with previous training in theoretical condensed matter physics and theoretical nano-optics, with special emphasis on light-matter interaction in excitons, and exciton-polaritons in low-dimensional systems, to join our team under the Adaptation Pathfinder Project funded by the European Commission, with the code 101129661.
Job Duties
The job duties will be the following:
- Detailed review of recent literature on excitons in J-aggregates films;
- Formulation of the problem of exciton dynamics in second quantisation;
- Describe Kasha model for light-matter interaction in J-aggregates;
- Study the polarizability of J-aggregates using the discrete dipole approximation;
- Quantum description of the optical response of J-aggregates thin films due to exciton formation;
- Theoretical light-matter interaction description of heterostructures and cavities composed of J-aggregates films;
- Theoretical study of excitons in composite structures made of J-aggregates films and core-shell nanoparticles;
- Theoretical description of energy transfer between idealised two-level systems in the presence of J-aggregates films;
- Model experimental data obtained by the experimental collaborators;
- Develop codes for computing the cross-sections of core-shell particles of different dimensions;
- Travel between sites of the consortium for fostering the exchange of information and collaborations;
- Disseminate scientific results in international scientific events;
- Participate in outreach activities at INL.
Mandatory Qualifications
Education
- PhD degree in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics and/or Theoretical Nano-Optics *
*Candidates finishing their PhD by November 2024 may be considered eligible.
Experience
- Theory of light-matter interactions in low dimensional systems;
- Theory of light-matter interactions in plasmonic nanoparticles;
- Theoretical description of polaritons;
- Theory of cavity electrodynamics.
Technical Skills
- Working knowledge of quantum field theory of condensed matter systems;
- Working knowledge of the theory of light-matter interaction in two-dimensional systems and metallic nanoparticles;
- Working knowledge of symbolic software packages;
- Working knowledge of python programming language (or equivalent).
Other Skills
- Proficiency in English.

How the Selection Process works
A. Applications eligibility check

D. Nomination
