Substitute Teacher - IDEA Houston Region (24-25)
Description
IDEA substitute teachers are provided with competitive compensation while preparing them for success in the classroom working alongside high-performing teachers. We are committed to creating a welcoming environment where substitute teachers are part of our IDEA Team & Family and are given the opportunities to learn, develop, and grow into future classroom teachers or co-teachers. We also welcome any veteran or retired teacher who wants to be part of our program to serve scholars in pursuit of our College-for-All mission.
$130 per day for non-degreed substitute teachers.
$150 per day for Bachelor's degreed substitute teachers.
Long term positions pay $140 (non-degreed) or $170 (degreed) per day, begins day 11 of consecutive assignment
- Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred and at least 1 year of experience working with children.
- Pass a background check
- Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- A belief that a college education is possible for all children, and a commitment to developing a school-wide culture that fosters a productive, enthusiastic learning environment.
- Work a minimum of 2 assignments a week
- Be on time and complete all scheduled assignments
- Hours: 7:15 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.
- Execute lesson plans and perform all other duties as assigned.

- Perform substitute duties as assigned
- Follow substitute plans as indicated by administration or absent teacher.
- Conduct assigned classes at the scheduled times
- Complete additional duties, which could include hallway, lunch or recess monitoring
- Maintain a safe learning environment utilizing the campus behavior management system and resources
- Actively monitors students at all times
- Use positive reinforcement when responding to students
- Complete Professional Development and comply with all legal requirements
- Complete assigned professional development and compliance courses (synchronous or asynchronous) upon hire, and throughout the school year as needed.
- Follows professional practices and regulations consistent with IDEA systems and policies in working with students, students’ records, parents, and colleagues.
- Implement feedback received from campus leadership and/or Regional Substitute Staffing Manager
- Use IDEA e-mail account for all communication and respond to all communication within 24 hours.
- Dress in a manner consistent with school policies.
- Enforce regulations concerning student conduct and discipline.
- Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on trust, understanding, and respect for the communities in which they identify.
- Maintain student confidentiality.
- Model correct use of English oral and written language.
- Contribute in a positive way to the school-wide culture
- Assume responsibility for supervising students in out-of-class settings while on campus.
- Ensure accuracy of Frontline – our substitute management and scheduling tool
- Work a minimum of 2 assignments per week
- Cancel assignment(s) with a 48-hour advance notice
- In an emergency cancelation, contact the school and manager before 6:45 a.m.
- Review Frontline records weekly to ensure accuracy
- Fulfill all additional “Long-Term Substitute” expectations if you accept such an assignment
- Work 5 days a week
- Participate in on-going professional development for implementing curriculum
- Review curriculum, prepare and adapt lesson plans
- Input student grades in a timely manner
- Long-Term Substitutes are expected to utilize the teacher planning period to complete additional responsibilities.
- Work is not to be completed outside the hours of 7:15 – 4:15
