Are you passionate about marketing and communication? The Communications Consultant works closely with Homeland Security and emergency management stakeholders to provide mission-critical communication guidance, develop a wide array of written and visual materials and engage stakeholders nationwide.  In this role, you will work with a team of passionate marketing and communications experts to create nationwide awareness and understanding of federal programs. Using a consultative approach, the Communications Consultant translates critical messages into the right medium for diverse audiences. Help build and implement communication strategies and plans for an emergency management organization.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Identify, synthesize and tailor complex messages into effective communication materials
  • Develop/support creative communication products, including communication plans, reports and briefings to reach a variety of audiences
  • Utilize social media to create and maintain program awareness
  • Act as a “trusted advisor” to clients, particularly in the areas of communication strategy and messaging
  • Use oral and written communication skills to develop on-point messages delivered through the right medium
  • Collaborate with and lead interdisciplinary activities within the project and across the company
  • Assist with major stakeholder engagement activities, including conferences, focus groups, meetings, and virtual training/webinar events 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with federal clients
  • Management consulting experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communication, or related field
  • 5+ years of professional experience
  • Writing for multiple media (e.g. online, print)
  • Comfortable using social media for stakeholder/customer communication
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to draft senior-level briefings and reports
  • Excellent word processing and Powerpoint skills;  as well as SharePoint
