FUNCTION:
The Associate Director – Partnership & Business Development will lead the development and implementation of long-term sustainable strategies to raise financial and non-financial resources for Signature Programs of PGPL in India. S/he will oversee resource mobilization through the growth of a portfolio of partners who provide funding and other means of support, networking with outside funding agencies, corporates, other NGOs, and government entities, and facilitating the fundraising process. This position will also be accountable for positioning PGPL as the partner of choice for key government agencies/donors/trusts/corporates and for managing communications and networking efforts.
This position will be a key team member responsible for mapping target audiences and developing communication and PR strategies to ensure clarity and consistency of messages that support and promote PGPL’s work in India. The Associate Director will develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the program area and keep them informed about PGPL initiatives and be able to communicate those project-wide and externally. S/he will also create and execute partnership development programs that support PGPL’s strategic initiatives and project objectives.
This position will work closely with both the PGPL team in India and the resource mobilization and communication teams at Heifer International Headquarters and its affiliates.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DELIVERABLES: (including approximate percentage effort)
Resource Mobilization, External Engagement, and Partnerships (60%)
- Conceptualize and compose a diversified funding portfolio in alignment with PGPL’s signature programs in India that preserves income from confirmed donors and reaches new donor segments to ensure the organization’s financial viability.
- Plan and implement both internal and external communication projects (including publications, events, mass mailings, and website).
- Ensure that appropriate systems are in place to deliver resource mobilization strategy, including an effective information management system.
- Identify and map resource mobilization opportunities by assessing the different sources of funding in the country, regions and thematic covered by PGPL (country donor profile), investigate the trend of donor interests, highlight their inclusion/priority in the PGPL model and build the value proposition for approaches to funders.
- Foster and cultivate relationships with the private sector, philanthropic funding community, and high-level donors through participation in relevant industry events, as well as organizational engagement and outreach.
- Manage, write, produce, and submit LOIs, proposals, and reports to regional private individuals and private sector philanthropic and corporate foundations.
- Continually track, measure, evaluate and report the achievement of resource mobilization and communication goals, shared value, with a focus on recommending and incorporating improvements as appropriate.
Resource Mobilization Planning and Strategy (20%)
- In collaboration with the Country Director, design a strategy and roadmap for resource mobilization, partnership, and communications for the PGPL India program.
- Create, plan, and implement all fundraising strategies and activities, building from and expanding upon the success of current private and public efforts.
- Assess the opportunities and risks of income-related decisions and oversee the development of policies, strategies, and objectives to guide fundraising, investment, and partnership decisions.
- Provide resource development intelligence/research on upcoming opportunities and develop recommendations for decisions on next steps.
- Develop and implement structured stewardship and communication plans to ensure donors are acknowledged in a timely fashion.
- Provide leadership to the India country program communications and networking team in public relations, including the development of key messages for promoting Heifer in India and its strategic objectives.
Leadership, Management and Collaboration (15%)
- Lead, inspire and orchestrate overall fundraising efforts, ensuring the implementation of a networked approach through the definition and application of clear roles and responsibilities across the organization.
- Regularly update and liaise with the Asia HQ Program team and the appropriate Heifer headquarters teams (Marketing and Resource Mobilization, Global Partnership and Alliances, New Business Development, etc.) on fundraising progress and strategy.
- Promote linkages to institutional funding sources and the corporate sector.
- Coordinate with the Country Director and other country program units to ensure a unified approach in resource mobilization.
May perform other job-related duties as assigned (5%)
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Master’s Degree plus five (5) years of related experience OR bachelor’s degree plus seven (7) years of related experience is required.
- Experience in strategic partnerships, fundraising or public relations with strong communication background. Prior experience in technical writing and grants acquisition (preferably from UN and other multinationals).
- Sound understanding of non-profit fundraising principles, both cash and shared value/in-kind funding.
- Extremely client-focused and results-oriented.
- Knowledge of and experience in fundraising and relationship management.
- Capacity to facilitate internal decisions across multiple stakeholders as required, which include but not limited to the private sector, government sector, financial sector, NGOs, etc.
- Knowledge of and connections to the international funding community (and US preferred).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent organizational skills including strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets PowerPoint, web designing, collaboration platform and tools, and electronic mail software (Microsoft preferred).
- Excellent marketing and networking skills.
- Demonstrated experience in successful acquisition of large grants from multiple donors (governmental and non-governmental organizations).
