Overview of Role

GroupM, an award-winning global media agency network, seeks a game-changing, self-starting Marketing & Communications leader for its diverse and dynamic APAC region, spanning 16 offices. Reporting to GroupM APAC CEO, with functional reporting to GroupM Global Chief Marketing Officer, this role will be a critical member of the company’s regional executive team, directly supporting and enabling the region and regional CEO’s communications priorities. 

The ideal candidate has a track record of designing and deploying strategic, innovative, and measurable communications programs. Adept at positioning and message management for various circumstances and cultures, from crisis to proactive and reactive opportunities, to identifying compelling thought leadership territories, this individual possesses technical communications skills, external brand building and internal communications experience.

The ideal candidate possesses and will embrace the responsibility to create and deliver regional communications strategies and plans closely aligning with the regional Executive Team, greater China and country communications professionals, and the global GroupM marketing leadership.

Reporting of the role

This role reports to the GroupM CEO APAC with functional reporting to GroupM Global Chief Marketing Officer.

In this role, your goals will be:

  • Develop and execute the GroupM communications plan, including thought leadership, key business announcements related to people, work, partnerships, M&A, POV's, offerings, and services at the regional level for internal and external audiences.
  • Build, unite and enable a best-in-class craft community of Marketing and communications professionals across the region, including best practice sharing and scaling, communications coordination and consistency,
  • Establish trusted relationships with regional executives and communications professionals.
  • Champion and define the GroupM “way” to communications strategy to advance GroupM's brand identity, compelling thought leadership territories, and increasing its visibility across critical stakeholders: people, partners, clients, and press. 

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Development and execution of the GroupM APAC regional communications plan, including thought leadership, key business announcements related to people, work, partnerships, M&A, POV's, offerings, and services for internal and external audiences.
  • Support executive communications and deliver critical messages by providing strategic counsel and support to senior executives to tell GroupM’s story effectively in the press, industry events, and internal audiences. Supervise and shape the company’s messaging and proactively develop talking points for leadership to address important issues.
  • Standardize, Unite and Champion the GroupM "way," including brand identity and integrity and crisis management.
  • Design, coordinate, and calibrate GroupM's overall reputation strategy, including speaking engagements, awards, and publishing cadence to support our products, partners, people, communities, and culture.
  • Support internal communications and employee experience initiatives working with APAC Executives.
  • Oversee the communications function's day-to-day activities, including resource and project management, budgeting, and stakeholder delivery and expectations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues at GroupM global and WPPto ensure messaging and goal alignment. 

What you will need:

  • Domain expertise in brand building and corporate communications to internal and external audiences with excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Expert understanding of critical regional trends in the Media and Communications industry, categories, digital marketing space, and the growing dependency on data, technology, and software.
  • Existing media relationships with key trade journalists.
  • Comfortable working in a scaled and matrixed environment; highly collaborative.
  • Positive attitude, proactive leadership, and the ability to build consensus with diplomacy across diverse points of views, markets and cultures.
  • Appreciation for social media and interest in emerging communications platforms and tools.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and experience in driving innovative communications programs at scale and for multiple audiences in complex portfolio organizations.
  • History of a successful brand, partner, product, and service launches via a progressive and detailed communications program.
  • Influenced/led/designed modern communications approaches and brand experiences, with a willingness to test and try new methods and platforms for delivery, measurement, local relevance, and cultural mindfulness.  
  • An incoming foundation of strong, regional media relationships and successful story conversions for internal and external audiences.
