Chief Commercial Officer, EssenceMediacom APAC

Job Description

Core purpose:

  1. Drive the transition of the finance and commercial operations as part of the creation of EssenceMediacom
  2. Drive the integration of the finance reporting function into GroupM APAC
  3. Drive commercial success; top line growth and profit improvements across the region together with APAC CEO and market leaders

Reporting lines/main contacts

  • Reports directly to EssenceMediacom Global CFO & EssenceMediacom APAC CEO
  • a strategic partner to APAC GroupM CFO and EssenceMediacom Global Commercial Lead
  • Where there are dedicated EssenceMediacom Commercial Directors in the larger markets they have dotted line reporting to this role
  • The CFO establishes and maintains peer-to-peer working relationship with local market MDs and CEOs as well as all GroupM local market CFOs. The CFO works collaboratively with all of them while exercising influence and providing Commercial and Financial guidance and direction aiming at delivering EssenceMediacom APAC financial targets year on year.

 Key Responsibilities

Transition & Integration

  • Support management to create EssenceMediacom in APAC and drive the transition of the separate APAC finance and commercial teams into one EssenceMediacom team across the region/ markets
    • Work in partnership with the APAC management team as well as market MDs to create, implement and roll out plans for operational processes, internal infrastructures, reporting systems and company policies all designed to foster growth, profitability and efficiencies within the company.
    • Partner with management and talent team to establish policies that promote company culture and vision
    • Create effective measurement tools to gauge the efficiency and effectiveness of internal and external processes
  • Integrating the financial reporting elements of Essence into the GroupM financial reporting teams
  • Partner with agency and GroupM IT teams to establish and maintain a long-term IT support and investment for a combined EssenceMediacom

 Commercial

  • Partner with the CEO to strategically and commercially develop the region that is aligned with Group Requirements; ensure the annual financial plan is fit-for-purpose; set and monitor targets
  • Work along with GroupM and Agency Global / regional teams to make the commercial offers less onerous on Agency and assisting in better extractions. Inform/contribute to revenue pricing models for RFP/pitch submissions
  • Works with APAC CEO and market MDs on budgeting, forecasting and resource allocation strategies; monitor resourcing and manage overhead and salary ratios within GroupM guidelines or Client negotiated contract terms as may be applicable.
  • Ensure Global EssenceMediacom leadership is made aware of the APAC market landscapes viz Client negotiations and prepare commercial offers accordingly.
  • Deliver improvements in profitability in markets/ clients; identify Product and Business Line expansion opportunities
  • Key escalation point for market issues relating to Clients – e.g. Trade Debtors/Accounts Receivable issues, client audit follow ups, contract negotiations and compliance.
  • Oversee the development and deployment of the best practices on specialist services from GroupM Nexus to ensure the completeness and accuracy of the associated terms and conditions
  • Serve as a key point of contact for senior-level clients in procurement and finance issues. Lead Operational Process improvements and Risk Management - in liaison with GroupM Investment covering areas in trading, media buying contracts,
  • Drive and roll out education, efficiency and Best Practice across the region; Implement best practice/policies/procedures in conjunction with GM/WPP; Share Global processes and templates to be utilised by local FDs ; Utilise and if appropriate identify available tools/intranet to share compliance docs and best practice – e.g. Leading IT initiatives to help automate and streamline tracking metrics
  • Ensure pricing & revenue strategies are adhered to in RFP submissions and retention negotiations (multi-regional or global pitches)
