 Purpose of Position

  • Lead ‘breakthrough’ evidence based strategies that deliver real business outcomes for MARS Wrigley and MARS Petcare throughout their ICP annual planning process. These strategies will leverage both art (creative ideatin) and science (rigour data driven thinking)
  • Collaborate across functions and specialisms to create integrated and end to end strategies, and ensure that the strategy is followed through into planning and activation
  • Attend and/or facilitate brand planning workshops, senior client presentations and any other client meetings that require strategic presence
  • Leverage EM proprietary tools in the development of strategies for all MARS brands
  • Create measurement frameworks for each of the MARS brands: business, marketing and media KPIs
  • Participate in training and development to understand the new EM way of working/thinking
  • A line on theoretical understating of established marketing theories/principles
  • Continue to build MARS’ reputation as one of the country’s most awarded clients (media awards)
  • Work collaboratively with the Head of Strategy on State or National based business pitches when relevant, as well as the creation of agency upskilling and learning via inspiration/education sessions
  • Contribute to the overall direction, growth and profitability of Essence Mediacom

On any given day, you might 

  • Attend weekly WIPs and collaboration sessions with team
  • Attend training & skillset development sessions
  • Co-create and track you growth plan
  • Ongoing collaboration on all client deliverables (working with the wider MARS team and agency craft leads)
  • Ongoing development of ‘break through’ strategies for MARS brands – aligned to the new EM way of working and proposition = BREAKTHROUGH!
  • Faciliate the integration of Planning and Strategy thinking on MARS
  • Drive creative/innovative thinking to deliver an unfair share of growth for MARS
  • Contribute to driving thought-leadership and inspiration across the borader agency, building the strategic vision for the EM
  • Contribution to and support in new business pitching
  • Direct relationship ownership with the senior clients on each brand.
  • Contribute to thought leadership seminars / presentations to senior client stakeholders
  • Drive thought-leadership for Mars (all segments) including contributing to learning agenda and authoring ‘3 minutes to Mars’ with latest category, consumer, business, tech, marketing and media insights
The Ideal Person
  • 5-7 years relevant experience working in strategy and/or planning roles, ideally with an agency background
  • A motivated and passionate media professional that strives to understand “why”
  • Able to get things done, knows how to organize yourself and others
  • Can strike up conversation with senior clients and media and talk the talk
  • Knows how to turn data and insights into a story
  • Can see communications  trends and solutions clearly
  • Understand how tools and technology can help tell a story
  • Keeps ahead of the industry news, knows what’s new and shiny in market
  • A trusted advisor that can quickly understand the client’s business needs and develop a solution
  • Loves to actively share POV on market and industry, both educating our clients and building trust
  • You are a highly skilled communicator, that knows how to simplify the complicated media world and structure of an agency

You Bring

  • Previous experience in a strategy and/or planning function
  • The ability to work with data to develop insights and recommendations for clients
  • A collaborative attitude and approach to solving problems
  • A mastery of your strategic capability, and a basic understanding across other forms of strategy, including, but not limited to: Brand strategy, communications strategy, digital & media strategy
  • A constant curiosity to challenge the status-quo
