About the role

This role forms part of a globally distributed business intelligence team, whose objective is to ensure that one of our most important global accounts have access to the right data and insights in order to inform their marketing decisions.  

The team’s primary responsibility is to maintain a global Google Cloud based reporting solution, which automates the collection and transformation of disparate marketing data into a single source of truth.  Not only does that mean running and maintaining the solution that already exists, but also continually improving it to incorporate new data sources, and to derive new insights, to support ever-evolving business demands.

As an Associate Director, Business Intelligence,  your primary responsibilities will be to work with media teams to develop and flesh out requirements, lead junior developers in updating and maintaining data models, views, and reporting templates within Google Data Studio, Looker and BigQuery, and evaluate processes, tools, and techniques utilized in our automated reports.

Some of the things we’d like you to do:

  • Work with media teams to coordinate development and delivery of reports
  • Lead BI developers both their development as professionals and in the day-by-day work of updating and maintaining data models, views, and reporting templates
  • Instill and leverage a mastery of Google Data Studio, Looker and BigQuery among team members
  • Evaluate processes, tools, and techniques utilized in our automated reports for optimal performance
  • Help document user requirements, and support their incorporation into a central development backlog for prioritization
  • Collaborate with data engineering, media team, and project management/scrum master stakeholders to organize and prioritize requests and use of resources
  • Within development sprints, be responsible for planning and developing solutions for prioritized requirements to deliver ongoing improvements within the Data Studio/Looker visualization layer
  • Work with account leadership to understand and track the reporting needs for upcoming campaigns and marketing programs
  • Lead the creation and weekly refresh of campaign-specific instances within the reporting solution, often requiring coordination of dependent tasks across disciplines and/or geographies
  • Coach, manage and support members of the team with troubleshooting data issues
  • Ensure users have the necessary skills & knowledge to use the reporting solution, including helping maintain training materials and knowledge base
  • Be the first-line of support for users, triaging queries as they come in, providing them with hands-on support where possible, and connecting them with other disciplines and experts when necessary
  • Identify opportunities to improve supporting cross-discipline processes, and work with others to make them a reality 
  • Assist BI leadership in recruitment and team expansion
  • Support company new businesses development

A bit about yourself:


  • 5+ years experience in a data or technically-oriented marketing role, preferably at a media agency or related company (e.g. publisher, ad tech, client marketing org)
  • Experience with digital marketing platforms and the data they generate, in particular Google Marketing Platform, Facebook, Twitter etc.  Knowledge of their API’s a plus.
  • An understanding of how data is tracked and exchanged in the process of digital advertising (e.g. role of ad servers and other third-party tech vendors)
  • An understanding of how media performance should be measured, and experience using different methods to visualize performance and to tell stories with data
  • Track record of querying data and developing effective reporting solutions using SQL
  • Some experience using or building reports with business intelligence software, ideally Google Data Studio and Looker
  • Analytically minded, enabling you to understand and overcome technically complex challenges
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, allowing you to bring structure to otherwise unstructured situation
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills, ensuring your thoughts and needs are heard and understood

  • Experience project managing the delivery of technical solutions, including exposure to agile product development methodologies
  • Experience building underlying data pipelines and ETL, particularly useful if done using Google Cloud Platform, Airflow, DBT etc.
