Key Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition
- Facilitates the recruitment process by creating postings, interviewing, reference checking, hiring, and delivering orientation
- Assists management in the preparation of interview questions and screening tools.
- Provides administration and gatekeeping for recruitment and hiring activities and results. This includes onboarding, data entry, processing hiring documentation and assisting employees with their enrollment in the benefits and pension programs
Leadership
- Supports and coaches’ management to ensure familiarity and application of human resources practices, programs, policies and regulations
- Takes a leadership role in health and safety, supporting the JHSC, completing accident investigations, meeting WSIB reporting requirements, and overseeing modified work programs and claims management activities
- Facilitates and conducts thorough and confidential workplace investigations with a detail-oriented and resourceful approach to support a timely resolution
- Retains a thorough and updated knowledge of company programs, policies, procedures and gaming regulations. Liaises with government regulators to ensure compliance
- Retains a thorough and updated knowledge of human resources practices, legislation and policies to respond to employee and management inquiries
- Identify issues, recommendation of changes as well as facilitation and resolution/implementation of specific HR issues/changes
- Exercises due diligence on behalf of the Casino and provide sound and informed advice that is consistent in interpretation and application of policies, procedures, collective agreements, employee handbooks, and employment legislation.
- Provides support and guidance to the Human Resources Coordinators and admin supports
- Provides back-up to the other HR Business Partners as required
Employee and labour relations
- Coaches and counsels managers on employee performance issues, best practices and effective communications (development and disciplinary)
- Provides guidance to managers regarding performance, attendance and progressive discipline processes
- Supports managers and employees through conflict and dispute resolution
- Provides expertise and guidance on application and interpretation of the Collective Bargaining Agreements and other Labour Relations functions, activities and processes
- Addresses issues with Union and work with manager to draft letters of understanding
- Ensures the timely and accurate communication and processing of collective agreement reports/initiatives for example, seniority lists, Step 3 meeting minutes, various reports and minutes at labour/management meeting
Organizational development
- Identifies and implement key programs to further enhance employee engagement and professional development
- Supports the design, implementation and ongoing delivery of Human Resource programs and initiatives
- Provide back-up for Manager Human Resources during times of absence
- Supports HR processes and maintains accurate documentation for employee and departmental files and information systems
What You Bring
- Minimum of 3-5 years progressive Human Resources experience including recruitment, employee relations, labour relations and other key human resource
- Post-secondary diploma/degree in human resources management; CHRP/CHRL designation an asset
- Employee relations experience in a Union/Non-union environment
- Knowledge of Performance management programs
- Experience with cost claims management and injury prevention programs
- General knowledge of ESA legislation, Human Resources theories, practices, legislation and resources
- Knowledge and experience using HRIS software an asset
- Be familiar with the principles of employment equity and work with team members and managers to uphold equitable employment practices.
- Labour Relations experience including but not limited to grievance management, layoffs, minutes of settlement, letters of understanding, arbitration & mediation, interpreting articles, providing guidance and assistance to team members in relation to the Collective Agreement
- Comfortable problem solving on your own and
- Ability to multitask providing sound advice despite multiple interruptions
- High proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
- Strong analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Proven high level of Customer Service
- Strong and effective communications – written and verbal
- Strong interpersonal skills, communication skills and negotiations skills
- Well-developed critical thinking skills
- Ability to exercise a high degree of discretion and judgment
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and act as a facilitator
- The ability to obtain registration as a Category 1 Gaming Assistant with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario
