Salary Range: $63,688 - $79,610

Your Role

This position works as part of the team that is responsible for the assessment, enhancement, facilitation and company-wide administration of total compensation programs including regular earnings, bonuses and time off, while maintaining an awareness of pensions, benefits and perks and how they fit into overall compensation.

What You Bring

  • Post-secondary education in business, human resources or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • 3+ years of experience in Human Resources, preferably in Compensation
  • Progress towards CCP, CEBS, CHRP or a similar designation is an asset
  • Knowledgeable in completing job evaluations, scoring positions and applying relevant pay equity processes  
  • Experience in hospitality, gaming, food and beverage and/or hotels is preferred
  • Ability to use critical and logical thinking and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons and facts
  • Strong business knowledge and analytical skills
  • Accountable and results oriented
  • Ability to influence others to take action and meet deadlines 
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of compensation legislation in applicable jurisdictions (i.e. BC, AB and ON) including Ontario Pay Equity legislation.
  • Strong management writing, verbal communication skills and exceptional ability to build positive business relationships
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills with Word, PowerPoint, e-mail and Internet research
  • Intermediate Excel and database skills (formulas, pivot tables, concatenate function, queries, etc.)
  • Understanding of best practices in the HRIS configuration of compensation and benefits components.
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to effectively present research and findings in a group setting with senior executives

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides recommendations and support in the determination of appropriate compensation programs; evaluates and revises programs based on changes in policy direction and trend analysis.
  • Maintains compensation ranges, pay equity models and bonus programs.
  • Coordinates and facilitates with key stakeholders, the decision-making process for annual salary reviews and facilitates the roll out of salary, bonus and other compensation adjustments at all sites.
  • In collaboration with the site Human Resources Managers, coordinates and facilitates the decision-making process for annual non-union wage adjustments.
  • Tracks hourly union wage adjustment timelines and follows up with the site Human Resources teams to ensure timely processing.
  • Participates in salary, wage and labour market surveys to benchmark total compensation programs.
  • Conducts ongoing research into emerging compensation trends, market data and surveys, issues and best practices to improve company compensation programs.
  • Reviews the internal and external market and recommends adjustments to the total compensation packages of individuals and groups of employees to ensure consistency with the company’s compensation philosophy.
  • Handles inquiries from hiring managers regarding compensation.
  • Issues ad hoc, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Ensures that compensation practices are consistent with legislative requirements in each jurisdiction.
  • Develops communications materials for employees to help them understand and take advantage of their total compensation programs.
  • Drafts and documents total compensation programs, policies and procedures for review by Compensation Team
  • Oversees job analysis and job evaluations; involving collection and analysis of job content, updating job descriptions, applying job evaluation methodology, and maintaining pay equity plans.
  • Develops and maintains contacts within the industry and liaises with professional associations, and other relevant organizations to remain current in the field.
  • Takes on additional responsibilities as required.
