The Position
The Solutions Architect is responsible for designing practical, secure, and scalable technology solutions that enable Gateway Casinos & Entertainment’s business outcomes. This role partners with business and IT stakeholders to translate requirements into end-to-end solution designs across applications, data, integration, infrastructure, and security.
The Solutions Architect provides expert hands-on architectural leadership throughout the delivery lifecycle—supporting planning, guiding implementation teams, ensuring solutions align with organizational standards, and enabling smooth transition to operations within a highly available and regulated gaming and hospitality environment.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Architecture & Delivery
- Lead solution architecture for assigned programs and projects, from early discovery through implementation and stabilization.
- Translate business requirements into clear solution designs, including application components, integrations, data flows, security controls, infrastructure needs, and anticipated future requirements.
- Produce and maintain architecture artifacts (e.g., solution overviews, logical designs, integration diagrams, and non-functional requirements).
Options, Trade-offs & Decision Support
- Evaluate solution options and recommend approaches that balance value, cost, delivery speed, risk, and operational supportability.
- Identify dependencies, constraints, and architectural risks early, and drive mitigation plans with delivery teams.
Integration & Cross-Domain Alignment
- Design integration patterns and interfaces across platforms and vendors, ensuring solutions work cohesively across the environment.
- Collaborate with SMEs to align designs to standards, reduce technical debt, and reuse shared capabilities where possible.
Security, Reliability & Compliance
- Ensure solutions meet required controls for cybersecurity, privacy, resilience, disaster recovery, and audit/regulatory obligations.
- Incorporate non-functional requirements such as availability, performance, monitoring, logging, and operational support into solution designs.
Implementation Guidance & Quality
- Provide expert hands-on technical guidance to infrastructure and partners during build and deployment to ensure solutions are implemented as intended.
- Lead and/or participate in design reviews, validate key technical deliverables, and support troubleshooting of complex issues during delivery.
Operational Readiness
- Work with IT operations/support teams to ensure smooth handover: support models, runbooks, monitoring, training, and documentation.
- Ensure solutions are maintainable and supportable, with clear ownership and lifecycle considerations.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of experience in solution architecture, senior engineering, or technical lead roles delivering enterprise solutions.
- Experience working with vendors/third parties and evaluating solutions.
- Experience in regulated environments (gaming, hospitality, financial services, or similar) is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to design end-to-end solutions across applications, data, integration, infrastructure (cloud & on-prem), and security.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to business stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF) and modern architectural patterns (cloud, hybrid, microservices, integration platforms).
- Strong stakeholder management skills, capable of gaining support from senior tech stakeholders and guiding broader project teams through complex transitions.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on, pragmatic decision-making.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional strategic thinking and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build consensus at all levels of a global organization.
- Infrequent travel to company sites may be necessary.
