Objectives of this role:

The Senior Account Director functions as a principal agency representative to client middle/senior levels of management and the strategic lead for multiple pieces of business. This particular opportunity is to lead a fascinating, fast paced, disease state education account, with the possibility of additional brand responsibilities. Leading the development of both patient and HCP-facing content for a rare disease, this position requires a combination of scientific acumen and ability to help shape important multichannel educational content.

The Senior Account Director is responsible for ongoing client satisfaction and developing additional business opportunities through building and maintaining strong client relationships.   The Senior Account Director provides overall direction for the account team and drives business within the team to meet or exceed the forecasted client business.  This position is responsible for providing direct-line management to all personnel within a designated client service team.

The chosen candidate will have displayed an acumen for understanding a complex disease and translating that understanding to project execution. This role provides a rare opportunity to guide highly valued content across multiple channels. It also provides a rare opportunity to directly experience the impact of your work, through contact with the HCPs and patients who are battling this rare disease. The expectation is that the Senior Account Director can lead a disease state education account with execution through digital, traditional, and medical education channels.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with Project Management and other departments to ensure that the resources of the agency, department by department, are deployed with continued maximum effectiveness in line with the client’s best interest
  • Identify communication strategies that will help achieve client goals and objectives
  • Lead the development of strategic communication plans
  • Develop and present new proposals to clients
  • Determine the manpower needs of the account group to best service the client
  • Oversee the budgeting process
  • Collaborate with Director, Account Services and Managing Director to prepare annual client fee budget and ensure that budgets are updated as necessary
  • Demonstrates ability to accurately develop and manage forecasts, updating with increasing accuracy throughout the year
  • Responsible for income and profitability of a book of business
  • Initiate and attend strategic planning meetings
  • Take responsibility for the income and profitability of account
  • Control costs, such as account-handling expenses, write-offs, and other concessions, in account services
  • Identify opportunities with clients to expand agency business within and across departments
  • Identify areas of potential weakness within the agency and work with team directors to find solutions
  • Manage, develop, and train account team members and is instrumental in maintaining staffing efficiencies, including utilization levels
  • Ensure that the account team adheres to agency and client processes
  • Works with other team directors to ensure a consistent approach across all teams
  • Review and approve client/brand backgrounders for new clients prior to project kickoff meetings
  • Review and approve creative briefs
  • Ensure that creative and strategic output is on strategy, on message, and exceeds the client’s expectations

 

Job Requirements:

 Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in health sciences, marketing or communications

 

Experience:

  • 10+ years of pharmaceutical marketing and agency experience, a subset of which has been spent managing direct reports
  • Experience leading disease state education business, preferably for rare or complex diseases
  • Strong digital acumen and experience guiding development of tactics across digital and traditional channels
  • Strong scientific acumen and experience, actively guiding the development of disease state educational content

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Strategic understanding of both established and emerging digital and mobile technology
  • Successful track record of delivering cross-channel integrated marketing programs that are the aligned with a strategic marketing plan
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical/healthcare and agency industry
  • Thorough understanding of marketing, communications planning, and branding
  • Thorough knowledge of all marketing channels and an understanding of how they work in conjunction with each other to drive behavior
  • Proven leadership ability and track record of earning respect of peers and colleagues
