The Opportunity
The Specialist, Web Designer designs intuitive, visually compelling, and donor-centric web experiences aligned with brand standards to elevate user engagement and drive digital impact.

This is a hybrid position based out of Feeding America’s Chicago office location. At Feeding America, we believe in offering a flexible work environment. Employees can be in the office an average of 2 days a week (when not travelling for work) and work from home on other days. Employees also have access to a 30-day “work anywhere” program during the course of each calendar year that can be combined with PTO and/or holidays.
Compensation

As such, we maintain transparent salary ranges and clearly defined practices for how our team, including new hire salary offers, moves through these ranges. You can expect us to offer the best salary up front based on these clearly defined pay practices with little room for negotiation. We make exceptions for highly experienced (multiple years of at-level experience) new hires in accordance with our pay practices. Once hired, employees have the opportunity to progress through salary ranges via regular merit increases and step promotions.
Salary Range: $79,000 - $84,000 Based on Experience and Location.

Responsibilities:

UX & UI Design
- Craft user-centered layouts, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes that optimize information architecture and ease of use
- Translate donor personas and journey mapping into thoughtful interaction designs that foster engagement and conversion.
Visual Design & Prototyping
- Apply graphic design fundamentals—typography, color, motion, and visual hierarchy—to create cohesive, aesthetically compelling web assets.
- Use Figma, XD, or Sketch to produce clickable prototypes, wireframes, and style guides that guide development.
Accessibility & Inclusivity
- Embed WCAG 2.1 inclusive design through semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, alt text, and motion control
- Continuously test and revise designs to ensure accessibility compliance and usability.
User Testing & Optimization
- Use A/B testing and user feedback to refine design decisions and improve conversion rates
Collaboration & Handoff
- Partner with developers to build scalable design systems and reusable components; maintain detailed design specs for technical implementation.
- Work cross-functionally with Brand, Communications, Advocacy, and Development to align creative vision with organizational goals.
Governance & Documentation
- Maintain and evolve a digital style guide; provide CMS authors with templates and guidance to ensure consistency and usability.
Continuous Learning
- Stay current on digital trends, UX methodologies, and emerging technologies to enhance the web experience.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- 3–5 years in web/digital design with strong UX/UI foundations.
- Proficiency in Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or similar tools.
- Solid understanding of responsive design, information architecture, and typography
- Experience with A/B testing, prototyping, and user testing tools (e.g., Maze, InVision).
- Proficiency in user-centered design thinking, visual design, and interactive design.
- Deep knowledge of WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards, inclusive design patterns
- Strong communication/project management skills—able to prioritize workflows and collaborate effectively across teams.

Preferred
- UX Design certification (NNG, Google UX).
- Accessibility credentials (IAAP CPACC or similar).
- Experience in mission-driven or nonprofit settings.
- Familiarity with CMS authoring workflows, tools, analytics tracking, and SEO fundamentals.
- Exposure to front-end languages (HTML/CSS/JS) or collaboration with developers to understand implementation.
- Experience with motion or interactive design elements (animations, micro-interactions).
