Surgery Scheduler - FMC (Per Diem)

Wage Range: $23.82 - $38.10 per hour, plus additional per diem rate
Posted wage ranges represent the entire range from minimum to maximum. For jobs with more than one level, the posted range reflects the minimum of the lowest level and the maximum of the highest level. Some positions also offer additional premiums based on shift, certifications or degrees. Job offers are determined based on a candidate's years of relevant experience, level of education and internal equity.
Job Summary:
The Surgery Scheduler with FMC is responsible for scheduling up to three surgical suites for procedures including Cesarean Section, Cerclage placement or removal. Also includes scheduling Inductions of Labor, Pre–Admit appointments, Outpatient Circumcisions, and Breech versions and NST/Cervical Ripening.
Primary Duties:
- Schedules surgeries for up to three (3) operating rooms based on availability of space and staffing and consistent with Women’s Services guidelines for proper gestation indications.
- Acts as unit resource and provide excellent customer service to patients, families, healthcare professionals and all staff.
- Facilitates communications on the unit and between ancillary departments and healthcare providers. Discusses scheduled procedures daily with Charge Nurse and work closely with unit Staffing Assistant to staff unit accordingly.
- Collaborates and works closely with Pre-admit Nurse to make adjustments to schedule as needed.
- Schedules cases via phone and faxes for numerous physician offices.
- Makes sure that patient charts are complete with MD orders and consents the day prior to procedure. Gathers patient charts prior to pre-admit appointments.
- Actively manages the schedules as patients deliver and openings occur.
- Calls patients and sets up pre-admit appointments or reschedules delayed procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
License, Certification, Education or Experience:
REQUIRED for the position:
- High School graduate or equivalent
- 2 years of scheduling experience in a medical environment
- Previous experience in office support or administrative role
- Strong medical terminology, including anatomy and physiology.
- Possess verbal and written skills to efficiently communicate and process information regarding patients
DESIRED for the position:
- 2 years of experience in office support or administrative role
- 6 months scheduling experience in a procedural care environment (Surgery, Endoscopy, Imaging, etc.) or clinic setting
- Strong medical terminology.
