Wage Range: $33.00 - $38.00 per hour

Job Summary: 
The Childbirth & Early Parenting Education (CEPE) program Instructor is responsible for teaching classes related to childbirth preparation and/or early parenting, at EvergreenHealth and is familiar with the philosophy of care, mission statement, services, and resources.

Primary Duties 
  1. Completes curriculum training requirements for Childbirth & Early Parenting Education (CEPE) as identified by leadership.
  2. As an instructor of CEPE classes, this position fulfills a minimum of 120 hours per calendar year, as needed by department. Includes days, evenings and weekends.
  3. Prepares for teaching according to the CEPE curriculum as outlined in the CEPE Instructor Manual. Utilizes teaching materials, including handouts, as designated therein. All materials require preapproval of (Teaching must not fall outside the designated curriculum outlines, including content, topics, recommended resources, and audiovisual aids, including handouts.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned.
  
License, Certification, Education or Experience: 
REQUIRED for the position: 
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Completion of EvergreenHealth’s online Lactation Education course within 6 months of hire date; must be updated every five years (‘Excellence in Care with the Ten Steps’ or equivalent as approved by CEPE Leadership)
  • Previous experience in adult or child health education, perinatal care settings, public speaking, or other relevant experience.
  • Ability to communicate clinical/educational knowledge to learners, including patients and other class registrants, student observers and/or assistants, nursing and medical staff, and families
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification
  • Childbirth Education Instructors also require one of the following three certifications, within one (1) year from date of hire:
    • Current ICEA Certified Childbirth Educator (ICCE) by the International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA)
    • -OR- Current Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator by Lamaze International (formerly ASPO Certified Childbirth Educator (ACCE) by the American Society for Psychoprophylaxis in Obstetrics (ASPO))
    • -OR- Great Starts Birth and Family Education Certified/Parent Trust for Washington Children
    • OR- Other relevant perinatal instructor training with emphasis on group facilitation.
DESIRED for the position: 
  • Evergreen Perinatal Education’s ‘Foundations for Best Practice in Lactation Care’ or similar course (ex: 48 hours of content + lactation education certification or the online UCSD course for Lactation Education Counselor certification with 45 hours of content)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Nursing, Psychology, Sociology/Social Work or related field
