EPCOR’s Application Services team is hiring a Manager, Application and Data Architecture [Full time, Permanent position] working out of Edmonton, AB. This position may participate in EPCOR’s Where We Work hybrid program depending on business needs and upon meeting the eligibility requirements. As the Manager, Application and Data Architecture, you’ll provide technical leadership to ensure delivery of high-quality projects that achieve business objectives and maintain stable, supportable applications. This includes approving Technical Design Documents and other System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) deliverables deemed mandatory, managing technical leads, and leading data and analytics initiatives across Application Services. You’ll also contribute to planning and research that drive long-term strategic change across EPCOR.

 

What you’d be responsible for

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Planning and Architecture, you will be responsible for the following (but not limited to):

 

  • Align project delivery with EPCOR’s architecture strategy by providing input into Business Architecture plans and ensuring effective relationships across Planning and Architecture and other business areas.
  • Developing and implementing short-term deliverables within the Planning and Architecture business plan.
  • Driving effective cross-functional accountability to ensure optimal project deliverables.
  • Leading data and analytics initiatives across Application Services.
  • Establishing and maintaining Application Architecture processes that comply with policies, standards, and regulatory requirements while mitigating risks.
  • Providing input into the budget process for the Planning and Architecture area.
  • Providing input and guidance on all Application Services technical standards and validating effort estimates for projects
  • Researching and recommending technical direction and decisions for projects and Application Services overall.
  • Managing and developing high performing teams of technical leads, systems analysts, and contractors with great work ethics and commitment to delivering high quality technical solutions, complex and large-scale projects within +/- 10% of approved budgets and timeframes.
  • Developing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with key business stakeholders within the IT group and across respective business units to ensure delivery or appropriate business results.

 

What’s required to be successful

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, System Technology or Engineering.
    • 2-year post-secondary diploma in Management Information Systems (MIS) may be considered.
  • 7+ years of combined experience that includes:
    • 5+ years of hands-on technical experience working with large, complex applications with multiple integrations.
    • 2+ years of direct project experience in a Solution Architect role or equivalent responsibilities.
    • Demonstrated success in leading high-performing technical or project teams, including coaching and managing performance to deliver business goals, preferably within the utility industry.

Individuals with less than the required experience may be considered in a developmental capacity based on demonstrated ability to meet the core responsibilities of the role.

  • Strong knowledge of the Systems Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC) including custom-build and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) implementation frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of delivering technical solutions or projects in Waterfall and Agile environments.
  • Deep and broad technical proficiency in current technology stacks (Web Technology, Mobile Technology, Integration Technology, Database Technology, Azure Technology and Programing Languages).
  • Strong knowledge of developing a work breakdown structure (WBS) and providing realistic effort estimates.
  • Ability to translate conceptual architecture into project solutions and lead implementation aligned with EPCOR or industry standards.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage senior leaders and diverse stakeholders, simplifying complex concepts for different audiences.
  • Demonstrated collaboration in cross functional teams to achieve complex goals.
  • High attention to detail while managing multiple priorities and large volumes of data and information in a dynamic environment.
