Labourer 2 – Linear Asset Construction & Maintenance (Temporary)

Location: Aurum Site, Edmonton, AB
Term: Up to 11 months
Positions Available: Up to two (2) positions
About the Role
EPCOR Water Services is hiring experienced Labourer 2 employees to support our Linear Asset Services team within wastewater collection operations. This role involves physically demanding, safety‑critical field work supporting the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of water and wastewater infrastructure throughout Edmonton.
This position is best suited for individuals who have prior labour experience, are comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, and understand the expectations of industrial and municipal infrastructure environments. Candidates without relevant experience, physical capability, or a strong safety mindset are unlikely to find this role a fit.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership
- Follow all safety requirements and actively support EPCOR’s zero‑injury culture
- Perform work in accordance with EPCOR, departmental, and regulatory safety and environmental standards
Field & Operational Work
- Assist with the installation, repair, and maintenance of water and wastewater collection infrastructure
- Support video inspection and proactive flushing of wastewater systems
- Perform ground disturbance work, including installation of shoring and shielding
- Participate in confined space entries, including deep shafts and tunnels
Tools, Equipment & Traffic Control
- Operate hand and power tools such as jackhammers, saws, compressors, grinders, drills, and air tools
- Install and remove traffic control barricades and perform flagging duties in high‑volume traffic areas
- Deliver materials and equipment to multiple job sites across Edmonton
Facility Support
- Perform utility and maintenance labour within treatment plant and field environments
What Is Required
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma (Grade 12), GED, or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year of related labour experience (required)
- Experience in water or wastewater infrastructure construction is a strong asset
- Familiarity with industrial or utility safety hazards and controls is an asset
Licensing & Transportation
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence is required (Class 3Q is an asset)
- Maximum of 6 demerits and ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit
- Poor driving behaviour may result in a candidate not being considered, regardless of demerits currently on file
- A driver abstract may be required; past infractions for unsafe driving may result in non‑selection
- Reliable personal transportation is required to travel to multiple job sites and EPCOR facilities
Physical & Work Conditions
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, and handle materials up to 22 kg (50 lbs.)
- Ability to perform sustained physical labour, including bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in confined spaces
Additional Requirements
- Successful completion of a Labourer Competency Passport
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada and minimum age of 18
- Pre‑placement medical, drug, and alcohol testing may be required

Use of a personal vehicle is required; mileage reimbursed in accordance with EPCOR policy

Class: 7702
Wage: starting at 28.18 per hour
- Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and based on a combination of factors as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
Hours of work: 10 hours per day, 4 days per week. Note: The selected candidates may be required to work overtime and perform job duties at work locations both within and outside the boundaries of the City of Edmonton.

- The results of this competition may be used to fill similar vacant positions for up to six (6) months.
