We are hiring a permanent, full-time Senior Engineer, Distribution Planning position working out of Edmonton, AB.

As a Senior Engineer in Distribution Planning, you will lead the medium- to long-term strategic planning of EPCOR’s electric distribution system. You will identify system constraints, assess future load growth, develop distribution system expansion strategies, and provide technical leadership in support of a safe, reliable, and cost-effective electric distribution network.

 

What You’d Be Responsible For

  • Lead medium- (1–5 year) and long-term (5+ year) planning activities for EPCOR's electric distribution system.
  • Identify system deficiencies, capacity constraints, reliability risks, and develop technically sound solutions to address future system needs.
  • Develop and maintain distribution system power flow models and planning studies used to support system investment and operational decisions.
  • Develop long-term load forecasts for substations and distribution feeders and assess future infrastructure requirements.
  • Monitor system performance and conduct contingency analyses to ensure the distribution system continues to operate safely and reliably under a range of operating conditions.
  • Conduct, stamp, and authenticate engineering studies and technical reports in accordance with APEGA requirements.
  • Plan for the interconnection of distributed generation and other distributed energy resources in accordance with applicable reliability standards, industry requirements, and EPCOR technical guidelines.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of distribution planning philosophies, standards, guidelines, practices, and criteria.
  • Build effective relationships with stakeholders across EPCOR and collaborate with external organizations, including municipal, regulatory, and industry partners.
  • Support regulatory applications, business cases, annual budgeting activities, and capital investment planning.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to planning engineers and other technical professionals.

 

What’s Required to be Successful

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and registration with APEGA, or eligibility to obtain registration.
  • Experience in electric distribution system planning and analysis.

  • Experience providing technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to engineers and technical professionals.
