About Your Role:

Our Software Development team is vital to our ability to offer incredible content to our users. They are an incredibly creative and diverse team of techies who research and develop the systems used internally and by our millions of users.  Our teams are looking for Software Development Interns to join us this summer and help make an impact.

The Dotdash Summer Intern Program is from June 3rd through August 9th, 40 hours a week, with a competitive compensation rate. This internship gives you the opportunity to make real technical contributions, ensuring that our 100 million unique monthly users have an incredible experience. You will work on our core products and services as well as those that support critical functions of our development operations.   

Depending on your background and interests, you will be working with the team in one of the following areas:

Dev Ops
This team is responsible for building cloud infrastructure, software development life-cycle tooling and the cloud service orchestration platform used by our developers to build and maintain their systems. This platform empowers developers to focus on design and implementation by seamlessly managing hardware and dependency requirements while handling hundreds of deployments and infrastructure changes a day. Team members work with a variety of back-end and front-end technologies and are expected to consider ease of use, maintainability, performance, architecture, and reliability in everything that they do due to the critical nature of this platform. This role will be based in our NYC office.
 
Service Platform
Do you have an interest in developing high throughput backend applications? Working with new tools and languages? The Services team works on Dotdash’s core services platform that serves millions of requests per day. You will be working side by side with other Engineers, Architects, Product, and Creative teams to contribute to the overall design and architecture of Dotdash brands. This role will be based in our NYC office.

Data Operations  
This team processes and exposes data and manages tools that empower data insights. They strive for consistency, durability, and reliability in their ETLs and deployments and promote a self-service data culture. They work with Python, Apache Spark, Hive, PrestoDB, Elasticsearch, Cassandra and MySQL. They’re looking for someone with an interest in Data Processing Best Practices, Big Data Tools and Methodologies as well as a passion for deriving data insights. This role will be based in our NYC office.



About You

  • Actively pursuing a BS degree in Computer Science or related field in your Junior or Senior year
  • Experience developing using technology such as Java, C++, Python, etc.
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies such as Javascript, HTML5 / CSS
  • Knowledge of databases like MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.
  • Knowledge of UNIX/Linux (Free BSD!)
  • Knowledge of testing tech like Selenium and a desire to break things and put them back together!
  • Desire to create things in a high transaction software/web development setting
  • Strong object-oriented design and development skill-set
