Position Overview:
Cronos Group is seeking an Assistant Controller who will work within the Finance department and report to the Corporate Controller. As the Assistant Controller, you will be primarily responsible for all activities of the accounting team. This role will partner with multiple teams across the Cronos Group organization. The ideal candidate must be motivated, collaborative and effective at managing multiple deadlines.
This role is based out of Canada or the United States.
What you’ll be doing:
- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for North American entities and produce accurate and timely financial statements for consolidation
- Prepare and review journal entries along with reconciliations for both the Balance Sheet and Income Statement during month-end close process, ensuring accuracy of month end results
- Manage and coach a team of up to three accountants who are responsible for the day-to-day accounting activities for a number of entities
- Pilot the preparation of several financial notes and financial information required for quarterly reporting
- Design, develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure timely and accurate financial reports along with strong internal controls, ensuring policies and procedures adhere to US GAAP and follow Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
- Maintain and update existing ERP systems along with company operating procedures to ensure the efficient and effective management of the company’s finances and resources
- Act as a thought leader by providing analytical insight and support to the Vice President, Controller and CFO
- Manage annual, quarterly, ongoing internal and external audits, serving as a primary liaison to independent auditors, ensuring successful completion within established time frames
- Research, interpret, and document accounting positions based on technical standards
- Provide leadership, training, and development of finance staff, ensuring the organization achieves and maintains a high level of performance and technical excellence
- Participate in the due-diligence process as necessary, ensuring business decisions are made in the best interest of the organization, to manage credit and reputational risk
- Work closely with finance functions such as Treasury, Tax, and Financial Reporting on complex issues such as transfer pricing, customs declarations, excise duty, and anti-money laundering as required
Qualifications:
- Must possess a CPA, CA accounting designation (or US CPA) with 7+ years' experience in public accounting or a combination of public accounting and industry experience
- Proficiency in US GAAP preferred
- Controllership experience, including knowledge of best practices and procedures with proven thought leadership skills including ability to identify, lead and implement process efficiencies and value-added solutions
- Knowledge and experience in using Accounting systems software (OneStream and SAP)
- Proven supervisory and managerial skills, including ability to take charge, ensure accountability and provide team leadership and guidance
- Sound analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
- Proficient at setting and meeting deadlines for multi-deliverables
- Demonstrate effect prioritization
- Well-developed verbal and written communication
- Adept working knowledge of MS Office (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
